The field looks great. But no warning track just yet. KC that's not Lima green.

Do you know if it will be the same color as the current 3rd to home turf or if all of it is being replaced with a different color?

I wasn't told the new color other than the color on the field now didn't turn out like WSU thought it would.

Brent Kemnitz was on Sports Daily today and there was a discussion of the turf toward the end of the show.

According to Brent what they were after was a wet dirt look for the "skin" portion of the infiled, but what they got turned out to be much darker than they wanted. He said close up it is a very dark brown, but from a distance (I assume like from the stands) it does indeed look black. They are tearing it out and will use the dark brown matches the 3rd base line.

I was listening intermittently so I did not get the whole discussion but I think Brent said they were doing something to get them through fall ball and then would switch it out before spring, but I did not catch what he was referring to.

                          Interesting.

They tore out the "lighter" brown 3rd-Home and Home-1st (installed late yesterday afternoon) paths this morning, in addition to the already-removed 1st-3rd area. I'm curious why they would do that if they were just waiting for more rolls to arrive that matched them.

Whatever happens, this upgrade is a definite aesthetic improvement over what we had, that's for certain.

And now I'm sad to see the black go. That's it, I'm flying to LA. I can't take you people any longer.

They may want to go with turf produced from all the same dye lot for all of the brown installation areas. Even a "very close" or "near perfect" match visually could age very differently out in the sun/UV and other weather conditions if it came from different dye lots, and thus perhaps they will replace all of the brown areas.

I would liked to have been a fly on the wall the first time Gene, Brent, and JT (or some combination of the three) discussed what they were seeing being unrolled on the field.

They started putting the filler into the turf this afternoon. It made the green darker and looks to be more of a "natural" grass coloration now. The machines they were using were remote controlled and looked like they vibrated or oscillated as they were distributing the filler.
