i wonder how the indoor practice facility is coming along?

It's coming along. Was down there, I believe it was Wednesday evening. If you are traveling east on 21st, you can see inside. They didn't at that time have the west end of the building closed up.

However, if that's the level of communication needed to secure a position in the higher levels of the sales food chain, then I've totally missed my calling in life. Good grief...

Think about it ... sports administration at every level is a huge good 'ol boy network ... that dude fits the mold.

Went out and caught a little of BP and then they started scrimmaging. Did not stick around to walk on it. Noticed that when the ball hit the turf sand/fill sprayed into the air. I'm sure that once the fill has had a chance to be compacted it won't continue but it looke like a golf ball when it hits the "beach". One of the Shocks stole 2nd base and started his slide and wound up cruising on past the base and holding on for dear life. He jumped up and started laughing and shouting like he had just had a life altering experience. The field looks absolutely GREAT. If you go to the top of the stadium on the concourse above the yellow seats you can see WU really well. Not so well the lower you go. Instead of upgrading the seating in left field why not extend the hill?

I'm curious about maintenance of the new field ...

Clearly daily and game-to-game maintenance and preparation drop to a minimum. Re-pack the mound, smooth it out real nice, spray paint the pitchers plate (and home plate once in a while), and PLAY BALL!

The old turf could be vacuumed and the grass mowed. Can they vacuum this stuff or will that suck out the sand/rubber in-fill? What about when some goober from Northwestern Eastern State stands in the 1B coaching box and spits sunflower shells everywhere? What about in May when the cottonwood blizzard dumps 10,000 lbs. of that fuzzy shiite all over the place?

Also, do the Shox keep one of those little Zamboni looking machines to massage the turf in case unevenness occurs or does Astroturf come by every few months and do that?

Just curious (and bored).

I just hate how the mound looks so much different than the other "dirt" areas. Why couldnt we have gotten soemthing less dark brown? Can we add some kind of color to the mound to make it resemble the baasepaths more closesly?

My guess is YES. I agree the mound should look the same as the base path. I should add the base path looks like real fresh plowed dirt. It's GREAT!

Nobody seemed to have any problems with it saturday. Probably even a little safer in times of moisture.

I just wish the base paths and area around home plate were real dirt. I think the actual field looks great but the base paths look studid.

yes they have a zamboni brusher but im not sure it would work with that type of turf, there are black rubber filling pellets, not sure it would move those around
