So they went 1-1 against the Big 12? Going .500 in Big 12 play would put you in the conference tournament.

I really can't believe someone is actually idiotic enough to be defending Oklahoma State's entry into the tournament.

The conference record looks really bad...but the OK State SOS and RPI was high and their OOC wins were good.
The reason they were 22-19 against the Top 100 was because they play in the Big XII. However even with that luxury, they couldn't win more than TWO of NINE series against them.

You're telling teams in BCS conferences that 9-16 and finishing 9th out of 10 teams is worthy of playing for the National Championship. You're telling teams in BCS conferences that even though you can't qualify for your own conference tournament, you should be allowed to qualify to play for the National Championship.

I love it. In basketball, a Missouri State team can go 23-9 with an RPI of 20 and be left out and the committee says there's more to it than the RPI.. and then in baseball a BCS team with a 32-22 record, a 9-16 conference record and an RPI of 26 makes it.. why? because they had a high RPI.

          What an idiot.

It's not BCS conferences. The Big 10 and Big East don't get these considerations. It's really the Big 12, the SEC and to a lesser extent, the ACC.

NCAA croni-ism is more prevalent in baseball than anywhere else...and that is really saying something.

I said this on another thread too. I should have said BCS minus Big 10 and Big East. You're right. The Big West is more elite of a conference than the Big 10 and Big East are in baseball. The only reason these two BCS conferences aren't factors in baseball is because they both lie north of the mason-dixon line. So they're kinda "phantom BCS'ers" in baseball.

Still though, it's a joke that teams that don't make their conference tournaments make the NCAA Tournament. The precedent was set a few years ago when the NCAA was letting 9th and 10th place SEC teams in. Now, it has disgustingly carried over into the Big 12.

Whether you're affiliated with these conferences or not, you can't honestly defend garbage like this. Can you?

Well the Big 12 lets 8 teams in, and so does the SEC. But the Big 12 has 10 teams and the SEC has 12. So "not making your conference tournament" is an arbitrary distinction. If they made this a rule (you have to make your conference tournament), the SEC and Big 12 would simply take ALL of their teams into the conference tournament and do pod play or give byes to the top seeds or something.

I would love to see the conference tournaments eliminated completely. Especially the SEC tournament.

Some guys are calling names rather than offering valid discussion points.

I am not an "idiot"..I just give a different viewpoint.

Sooo...Rhode Island goes .500 against a Big 12 team that didn't make the tournament (and it very easily could have been .000 with that 5-4 win), and some one thinks that I am an idiot for thinking that RI might not have the better team.

I know that I am not from your area of the country, and my viewpoint may be different...

Guys from BCS conferences rarely see eye to eye with guys from the non BCS...be it football or baseball.

Wait? Now you're downplaying Rhode Island for playing OSU? You need to make up your mind on which point you're trying to hone in on.

You nailed it. The arrogance of the BCS (and there are exceptions, not in your case though) really fogs things up.

Thanks for coming to voice your opinions at a worthless non-BCS site! Have you practiced all of the softball chants? :good:

We are taking advantage of an automatic bid this year and that is great, but I would rather see both in basketball and baseball, tournaments get-rid of automatic bids alltogether. I want to see the best 64 in the country go at it period. They need to come up with a fair way of determining the top 64 and call it a day.

If the BCS did that the thing would NOT be worth watching.
First a Baseball fan then a Volleyball fan and then I guess I follow the basketball team.

So basically eliminate 2/3 of the conferences in D-1?

                              Man, you're something else..

Thank goodness this did not apply to Fresno State last year. They only got in because they won their conference tourney. We all know what they ended up doing.
