Creighton at Wichita StateMay 16, 2009
WSU 11, CU 1 - Final.
Shockers pick up their first run-rule. The game ends with fireworks between the two teams. Creighton was offended that Tyler Grimes stole third with a 10-1 lead and they let him know it. Words. Pushes. The dugouts emptied before umps and coaches cooled things off. After the final out, more words exchanged and the Bluejays apparently declined to shake hands or were warned away by the umps. The Shockers, of course, were very willing to be good sports and shake hands. They gathered near the first-base line and waited. WSU even delayed its field maintenance so as not to cross paths with the Jays as they left the stadium.
As Bret Bascue said, it was probably better that way.
In normal baseball ways, I get Creighton’s outrage. However, with the 10-run rule, I expected WSU to try to score and end the game in the seventh. So I think Creighton’s anger is misplaced. The run-rule exists. WSU would be foolish not to try to use it. If Creighton can’t keep Grimes from stealing third to get the winning one run 90 feet away with one out, then the Jays deserve their fate.
Creighton coach Ed Servais was screaming about bad baseball after the game. In truth, he is probably just as offended and frustrated by his own team’s play. He has to get them ready to play again on Wednesday (and Thursday against WSU) so his outburst gives him a good starting point and tells his team he hasn’t given up.
Hell yes a team will steal 3rd base. Put the nail in the coffin. Save two innings needless pitching by your staff.
I think Mr. Ed Arse did not throw some pitchers in order to save them for next week. Maybe he thought he would get a win anyway to wrap up third place. They scored two earned runs the entire series. LMAO

I guarantee you that if the score had been in Creighton's favor they would have done exactly the same thing the Shockers did.
Screw Ed and his bunch of showboat whiners.
I am sick of Creighton and they got exactly what they deserved.

Exactly. I rather people hate WSU for kicking people around and be a Drake or Evansville and have people feeling sorry for you. WSU took the first step in re-establishing their dominance in the MVC.
I hope there is at least 6K Thursday night to greet the BJ'S.Have to wonder if Cooper will jump ahead of Lowell to pitch against Creighton after his dominance today.Fun day at the ballpark.
Two weeks ago today we gave up a 6 spot in the top of an 8th inning ( and another in the 9th) in a game we had control of and eventually lost. Anything can happen. The rule is there, so I don't see anything wrong in using it.
Props to Mr. Cooper and everyone else who chipped in.

LOL at Servais.
Did he and the sCUm players really expect WSU to just lay down and die and not try and run rule them? Is that a joke?
Not surprised the biggest crybabies hail from sCUm and Homerha.
Deuces Valley.
... No really, deuces.

Bascue's catch in left was outstanding like Cooper's pitching. I find it hard to believe Kelley and Cooper pitched so good and gave up 2 earned and Lowell Flynn and Johnson Gave up 2 UNEARNED. Wow thats baseball. How many hit can you get and NOT score and earnd run? Ask Ed he knows.
First a Baseball fan then a Volleyball fan and then I guess I follow the basketball team.
schweet... KU hammers K-State; Shocks sweep Creighton, and a run rule game, to boot.
Me likey.
:good:
At Ballard’s Sporting Goods in Aggieville, this season’s popular purple T-Shirt with the “Welcome to Huggieville” greeting had already been replaced with a newer line known as “Welcome to Traitorville.” “Welcome Back to Loserville” might be a more appropriate selection. - msnbc 4/7/07
Servais should go talk to his ole buddy Dana about pouring it on. What goes around comes around, and I for one, am more than happy to watch any Shocker team pile-on a sCUm squad because ... well ... they're sCUm and I HATE CREIGHTON.
Note to Ed Servais - the day your guys quit trying to score runs is the day your opponent stops trying to score runs.
Hey Eddie, the run rule is in place so that teams that SUCK don't get embarrassed. You're not embarrassed, are you???
The Shox just spent three games taking out a whole season of frustration out on your Bluejay arses. Furthermore, third place in the conference is better than 4th place. Sucks to be you.
I have never, ever, seen a bigger bunch of showboat whiners than the sCUm baseball team. They ***** and moan about every call. They must practice complaining, because they do it better than play baseball. Take away their leadoff walks and HBP and they can't score squat. 2 earned runs over 3 games. Wow ... and we thought the Shox offense was anemic.
OK, I'm done. Did I mention I HATE CREIGHTON?

Basketball Season Tix since '77-78 . . . . . . Baseball Season Tix since '88
FYI, my 27 win prediction was 27 D1 wins, so we have some work to do.
Like the sun rising in the east, you're always there to find the dark cloud on a silver lining day.
With at least 8 (as you would (change the rules to fit the circumstances) say Division 1) games cancelled due to weather this season, the average sane fan wouldn't be as self-aggrandizing as you tend to be in your predictions.
The only thing that is as predictable as your kicking WSU athletics when they are down is your conspicuous silence when they are not......in fact it is so predictable I have serious reservations as to your motives. Why do I feel that if the Shocks were the ones being swept this weekend we would have heard a lot more from you during the 3 game series?
