  • Tabor Bluejays at Shox

This game might look on the surface like just another run-of-the-mill game vs. a non-D1 opponent (which it is), but it is intriguing because Shocker legend Mark Standiford is the Head Coach of the Bluejays.

#12 led the Shox in HR in '85, '86', and '88. He holds the career HR mark at 69 and the single-season record of 28 (1988), which is somewhat amazing considering the longevity of the record and his rather small stature. He is in the Top 5 in most of the career power records in WSU history. Mark was one heck of a player - gritty as hell and real "old-school" Shocker Baseball.

Mark has also been involved in the development of many current and former players through his Wichita Sluggers Baseball Academy and as coach of the Wichita Sluggers NBC teams.

The game may be a footnote to Standiford's return to WSU. Tabor has not had a great season and stand at 21-28. Cameron Maldonado is scheduled to start for WSU.
    Basketball Season Tix since '77-78 . . . . . . Baseball Season Tix since '88

Nice start by Maldonado. I just can't see why he hasn't seen more playing time.

    ... No really, deuces.

If I was Maldonado, I would start looking to see if UNI would be interested in him transferring to their school. I hear they have a fine general education program.

Remember that article about more KSU fans at the game? Yea, that was bull.

There are however more Tabor fans here than Shocker fans tonight. 22-20 will do that to you but I'm glad to say that we can demistify the shocker fan. There are plenty of us crazies, of course. However, the vast majority are your typical Wichitans -- they love a winner, can't be bothered with anything else.

I think that happens everywhere Rose, not just Wichita. And besides, NAIA opponent games typically don't draw well, even when we have good teams.

Props to Baez for making Tabor pay for loading up the bases with walks..

Well, we managed to tie it and get more hits than them.

But since we are getting work for our pen (and we don't have the lead) the door to the deep freeze is still well shut.

Remmy gets a pinch hit double.

Runners on 2nd and 3rd with Cody up, one out.

                  1-1 count

Cody gets a 2 RBI double with a GREAT AB with a lot of foul balls hit by him.

                    5-3 shox

I think we found a new man for 2nd base, and it is a pitcher.

                      I'm all for that!

Mark Standiford held the NCAA record for career doubles until just a couple of years ago. He is a great competitor and a helluva good guy.

Tabor is sticking around and not making mistakes.

I am sure every Bluejay in that dugout thinks they are going to come back and win this.

                            On the mound: Mitch Caster

                            Again, only up 5 to 3 ...
