A poster who seems to have some knowledge of the situation said, "a newer version of the same type of turf". That doesn't sound like, to me at least, that we will see a natural, modern material because of GS's concerns with speeds. Regardless of marketing and brand names, it sounds like we're still replacing same with same. Just because Astroturf now produces a Fieldturf knockoff to remain competitive in the modern marketplace, doesn't mean they don't still make the old green carpet.

In the Gameday Grass they have four options, atlhough the main features are the same.

The Gameday MP says it is an excellent choice for baseball.

Looks like they're going with field turf with the only dirt being that on the mound area.

That's disappointing with dirt only around the pitcher's mound. Oh well, we'll get used to it once it's in.

Is the University going to sell squares of the old turf to fund the indoor practice facility???

There won't be dirt in the batters box area?

I think you can get a square of the old turf. There is a phone number but I can't remember. Anyone know it?

Looking at pics of recent installs at the FieldTurf website, it looks like having the pitchers mound be the only real dirt is the norm. If I read Shockwaves correctly, does this mean we will still have real grass in the outfield?

I concur with most of the above sentiments - I'd rather see real dirt in the normal places as much as possible. Oh well.

Uh, I'm pretty sure the outfield will be untouched.

It's funny. So many of us fans are all over having dirt in the 'real' spots. It's funny that the coaches don't feel the same.
