Really not that shabby a record against teams still playing.
The key record is 0 for 20 in the CWS.

To be fair, anyone who doesn't think FSU is a baseball powerhouse is a knucklehead. Just because they haven't won a championship in no way diminishes their success in the sport. By some people's rationale, they would say Holy Cross' or Ohio State's lone CWS Championship trumps anything FSU has ever done. I say B.S.

I would rather be in FSU's shoes than either of Holy Cross or Ohio State's when it comes to baseball. Sure these two programs have a CWS Championship, but they are pretty much insignifigant on a yearly basis in the sport. Give me 19 CWS appearances anytime. One of these days they'll get the monkey off their back.

So is FSU going to play WSU next year? A home & home would be great. Or FSU could be like Long Beach State, Fullerton, etc. and play three games here one year and have WSU play three games at FSU the other year.

I think not. The wait till next year or we as fans should be thrilled for FSU just to get to the CWS is old and worn out.

Don't let these fans bother you..their problem is they know we choke every year and won't admit it..to me they aren't men if they can't accept the facts. Most of these "wait til next year" fans make the same excuses every stinking year for why we don't win the in the CWS..when they know the only constant is Mike Martin. These same fans will be the only ones that remember MM's regular season wins because nobody else will!!! Its time for a change

              • Every board has these semi hysterical fans...usually, IMHO, guys that have self worth issues.

There is one common denominator with this kind of fan, they link their egos to a bunch of 19-22 year old ball players. The players win, they feel good, they lose and somehow it diminishes that poor fan.

The folks that I sit with usually are fans, they like baseball, they like to win...but if the team gets to Omaha and loses, they don't start railing, whining, yelling "choke". That's for the sad sacks that need enhancement in their success rate in life by borrowing success from the 19 year old kids.

Are you kidding... Half the poster in this WSU baseball forum have wanted genes head for some time now. I guess 40 wins a year for 31 consecutive years just isn't enough for some. I mean seriously people forget that these are 18 year old kids and not Professional athletes playing for 20 mil a year. Half our fans are willing to throw the character of our program for 31 years away for one more CWS title. Thank god I'm not one of them.

                      • and that is sad...

I have to give credit to a guy that built a program from the ground up and maintains a "baseball image" for WSU. And, with some competitive disavantages.

Only eight teams go to the CWS....you have to be good, and you have to be lucky. Gene is a future Hall of Famer, a national figure in college baseball and deserves respect.

                        I wish him success.

yea, i agree. out of the 330 or so div 1 baseball teams, i feel pretty proud to have the finishes we have every year. genes the man. we are lucky to have him. what are the odds that the next guy would be that successful? i don't think the odds are good at all.WSU is in wichita. therefore we can't expect to get all the great recruits unless they're from the midwest in most cases. i believe our location hinders us. having gene and brent here at least gives us prestige to work with. then theres the great facilites that will continues to bring solid athletes from nearby. but wichita in itself keeps us away from zillions of recruits in the southern and western (warmer areas) USA.

so anyway, i guess i'm just saying, in a nutshell, that i want gene till he dies, i ALMOST feel he has the right, kinda like Joe Paterno.

                          anyhow.... :goshocks: 8)

I provided a link to the entire thread; about what are you getting excited?

A WSU fan said FSU was good. I copied a FSU fan's post which offered a different view. Why would I do that? (Hint: It's funny.) Don't get your panties in a wad.
