For what seems like a month, every interview with Gene seems to include him welling up with emotion at one point or another, probably the last 10 interviews i've seen or heard. Gene seems to be really upset. I don't know what is going on here, but my gut says he might retire.

I suspect that you are wrong (but I don't know and you might be correct). I think Gene really liked this group of guys and will miss them. I also think he really wanted to take them to Omaha. Some posts are not visible to me. :peaceful:
Don't worry too much about it. Just do all you can do and let the rough end drag.

I wondered the same thing.
I have never seen him that way before.
I am sure that all of the off the field activities, the stalker accusations and Paula leaving him, have him pretty emotional.Let's hope he can hit a D-1 Curve ball!

I think other's have hit on it correctly, the current season was one of Gene's only bright spots in life at the moment, and it ended.
Give him a few months and he'll have the legal mess behind him, a new crop of top tier recruits under his wing, and maybe some positive developments in his personal life, and he'll be the same ol' stodgy bird he's always been.
I just don't see Gene retiring anytime soon. As long as Soggy Burrito leads him in overall wins, and the no Omaha since 1996 CWS monkey sits on his shoulder, he's not going anywhere, at least not on his own recognizance

I just get the feeling that he is going to retire as well. No sources or anything behind my statement, just my gut reaction to everything that has happened over the past few months and the extreme amount of emotion that he showed over the weekend. I think Gene was just hoping that this team would take him on one last great ride but unfortunately they ran into a buzzsaw. Whatever happens I will always be grateful for what Gene did for the program for without him there may not even be a WSU Baseball Program to enjoy.
