Man, those Stanford series were nailbiters, though. Lots of fun, but definitely stressful for the average FSU fan!

This may (or may not) have been posted elsewhere but I find it interesting. http://thecollegebaseballblog.com/20...s-for-the-cws/

      CBB Predictions for the CWS

      Bryan Young’s Predictions
Florida State. I wish people would confuse Florida and Florida State as much as they do Arizona and Arizona State, but let’s return to the current situation. No way anyone from the Oklahoma State bracket goes into Tallahassee and takes two of three.

      Brent Blough’s Predictions
Wichita State…I’m not sure why I have them moving on to Omaha over Florida State. They play in a weak conference but, I like their chances with a good pitching staff led by a great coach.

      Aman Reaka’s Predictions
      OK St. beats Florida St.

      Willie Nicklaus Predictions
      Wichita St. over FSU

      Sam Wasson’s Predictions
      FSU

      NYDore’s Predictions
      OK State

      Donald Boyles Predictions
      Florida State out of Tallahassee

      Brian Foley’s Predictions
OK State upsets the Seminoles in Tallahassee

Don't worry too much about it. Just do all you can do and let the rough end drag.

FSU does not have to leave the south. Heck, if they wanted to, they could fill their entire non-con with D1 teams in their home state. Central Florida, Jacksonville, Florida, Miami, Florida Atlantic, Florida International, and South Florida. Not to mention all the programs in the adjacent states.
I'm sure it saves them money (not that they need to) on travel expenses and time traveled.

We on the other hand do not have that luxury. Arkansas and Mizzou dropped us, we can only get in 1 game a year with OK State and Nebraska. It's slim pickens for us at WSU.

Playing all of those Big 12 schools is hardly slim pickings.

Throw in Arizona State and Long Beach State and we have a nice OOC schedule.

Going out of state and out of region makes the season much more interesting too.

If FSU wants to win the CWS someday, however, they might want to play in different regions of the country and see different styles of play; they are likely to see really good pitching, small ball, long ball, etc. in Omaha and it might be useful to have seen these styles before the CWS.

For the 2008 season, WSU played 23 OOC games at Eck, 2 others in Kansas, 3 in California, 2 in Oklahoma and 1 in Nebraska. I think Oklahoma is considered "south" for baseball purposes; in this case, WSU played 26 OOC games in the "mid-west", 3 in the "west" and 2 in the "south."

I definitely don't consider Oklahoma to be "Southern." I barely consider Arkansas to be Southern and as I've discussed on this board before, IMO the NCAA considers Arkansas to be Mid-western (as evidenced by the regionals we are placed in and teams we play in regionals.) The same is true for the Oklahoma schools.

I generally go by the twang/drawl on wheher it's southern and from my experiences there's no question about Arkansas and 3/4 of Okies qualify.

I completely agree with you. We have traveled to Stanford before but I would like to see a west coast trip once a season.

A lot of the players that were at FSU in the 90's feel the same way. Annual trips out west to ASU, Stanford and the like were great preparation for what we'd see in the post-season. Even if you don't fair well, it still prepares you for other types of baseball you'll see.

Granted these past couple years with the emergence of UNC and UVA into upper tier schools to go along with Miami and Clemson (normally), FSU plays plenty of good teams along the way, but there's not a doubt in my mind that not making those annual trips out west have at least something to do with us not making it back to Omaha recently.

thats good ..it would be terrible for the kid to miss out on this ...although he is a freshman you dont want to discount your opportunities in a super regional...

                            Super Regional Predictions
Who we think will advance to Omaha

Sean and Phil are joined by the all-knowing, all-seeing Villanova head coach Joe Godri for predictions for this weekend’s Super Regionals.

                            Tallahassee Super Regional

Sean: Two coaches with nearly 3,200 combined wins. Kind of makes you feel like your opinion doesn't matter much. FSU received its big scare last weekend. It gets another one this weekend, but gets by in three.

Phil: The Seminoles were shut out in their regional opener against Bucknell before exploding for 74 runs in their next four games. The Shockers were impressive in sweeping through Stillwater. I think Wichita State wins this one in three.

Joe: Florida State sweeps the Shockers! We will all enjoy the highlight footage of Joe Carter in a Shocker uniform though! All Noles offense here.

Speaking of Joe Carter - How does he not make the "notable alumni" list on ESPN? I realize I'm nitpicking here, but for some reason that annoyed me.
