I'm expecting this series to be a polar opposite of last year's super with UC-Irvine. No pitchers duels.
If it's not a pitching duel, then I think it will not go very good for WSU. If WSU starting pitching can limit FSU hitting then I think WSU has fighting chance.
It looks like WSU running game will be neutered by Buster.
Tyler Holt - Freshman lead-off hitter. Reached base in every game this season until the ACC tourney. Got into a slump in the ACC tourney but just had a HUGE regional. Went 5-6 today.
First, thanks for the info. This should be fun, and I'm really looking forward to watching what some have called the best starting 3 go up against Posey.
Anyways, I quoted this line about Holt to remind the Shocker fans how impressive Dirks' streak has been. For FSU fans: He is our leadoff CF Senior who has been on base every game this season, plus the last 11 from last year. I think his hitting streak is at 28 games right now too.
I'm glad we play Friday, because waiting this week is going to be killer.
While I usually just lurk and read, I'm too excited for this week-end not to add a little this time. I became a Shocker fan in 2006 when my former student joined the team as a pitcher. I moved from Missouri to Pennsylvania but I've made it back to 2 or 3 games each year - including the regional last year - and have really come to respect and enjoy the Shocker fan base.
Here is my Florida State twist - my brother got his PhD at Florida State and my parents retired to South Georgia about 40 miles north of Tallahassee and we gave them FSU baseball season tickets for Christmas. As we are a family of baseball fanatics, my mother has become one of the 'Noles biggest fans. She remind me of many of you who support the Shockers at every game. My brother and family will be at my parents on vacation and I'm driving down so we'll all be there for the Super-Regional.
I just got off the phone with my Mom who agreed to 1 - buy my tickets for the Super-Regional when they go on sale in the morning and 2- Root for the Shockers on the day Aaron pitches. (My son told her she had to because he's our hometown kid). She is making no promises for the any other games. I think we stand a good shot of getting my dad and niece to root for the Shockers to win the whole thing - but my brother and sister-in-law are FSU alumni so while I'm pretty sure they'll be rooting for Aaron to get a win - they may be with my mom cheering on their 'Noles the rest of the series. I will be there rooting for the Shockers through the whole thing! If there is a fight in the stands - it might be us.
FSU fans are very much like Shocker fans - knowledgeable, LOUD, loyal, and proud of their team. I hope a large group of you will make the trip down and enjoy a week-end of baseball. There is nothing better than baseball between two outstanding teams with great fans supporting each team. :goshocks:

Wow. that sounds like quite a pesky hitter. The key for FSU pitching sounds like to keep him off base. WSU's 3 starters scare me big time. We haven't faced a string of 3 starting pitchers like that, other than Miami and UNC, all season. Our bats will have to stay hot if we are going to win this thing.
The last time we played each other was in 1999 at the Hormel Foods Classic at the Metrodome. I don't believe WSU has ever made a trip to Florida State and it will be a challenge. Coach Martin is a good guy and hopefully we can get a Shox-Noles series going.

Who are you guys throwing game 1?
It will likely be either Elih Villanueva or Matt Fairel. Considering Fairel threw over 150 pitches this weekend I imagine we would hold him until Saturday.
Ryan Strass and Geoff Parker are other options but their chances of getting a start Friday or Saturday are much smaller than those of Villanueva and Fairel.
As I recall, FSU plays the Philadelphia Phillies every year. I am sure that is a really exciting scrimmage. Have you guys ever won that game or any game against a MLB team?
Spoiler Alert: Bruce Willis was dead the whole time!
To the FSU fans...
Let me start off by saying that I just concluded my 16th season broadcasting Tulane baseball, so I have been to my share of college ballparks during that stretch. I felt compelled to say on the air, and now here, that this past weekend was, without a doubt, the best experience that I have had on the road. Your ballpark, your fans, your staff...not to mention your team, are tops on the list. There were times I didn't want to say anything, jut so the people listening back home could hear the cheers (and singing) on the crowd mic. If you didn't know any better, you would think you were at a soccer match in Wembley Stadium...the standing O for Matt Wilson is something I'll always remember...When our players were singing the chants and Sweet Caroline on the bus ride home yesterday, you know that an impression was made.
I know the last 2 days were tough on us, but the best team won the regional. I have NEVER seen a hitting display like that in my life the last 3 days...with some pitching and D, there is no doubt you guys have what it takes to win it all. I can tell you this, there is no doubt as to what team I'm pulling for...the only regret I have is that Tulane and FSU won't meet again on the baseball diamond for who knows how long. Hopefully we'll meet again soon, THIS time though in our brand new ballpark in New Orleans, and many of you make the trip west.
Good luck against the Shockers and hopefully back in Omaha!!

Compare these comments after FSU beat Tulane with Cowboy comments after WSU beat OSU. If I were an Oklahoma State fan, I would be embarrassed by the Internet behavior of certain OSU fans.
Some posts are not visible to me. :peaceful: Don't worry too much about it. Just do all you can do and let the rough end drag.
The standing O he's referring to is from Friday, when the Bucknell pitcher, logged 153 pitches and a complete game in route to a shutout against us. Very impressive, especially considering our offense. The FSU fans gave him a standing ovation at the close of the ballgame. Bottom line is I think you'll find us very appreciative of good baseball.

So when one of our guys goes the distance with a shutout, he'll get a standing ovation too? That'd be great.

Hey, if you guys can pitch around Posey and Rye for 9 straight innings, I'm pretty sure a standing O can be arranged....
Now why couldn't one, ONE single OSU fan be like any of the FSU fans on here? I am eagerly anticipating this weekend series and hope to see a few great games. May the better team win and to the loser... well, you're better than Okie State!
