Mike Pelfrey also went six innings for the Mets, and was charged with eight hits and three runs. The right-hander walked one and struck out five in his first start since July 6. He remained winless in seven decisions this season.
Mets ended up losing 6-5. Mike had a no decision.

Zephyrs starting pitcher Mike Pelfrey (3-6) records the loss after giving up five runs on five hits in 4.2 innings of play. (This was Saturdays game, a 5-4 loss).
It was exciting when Mike made the opening day roster. Time has revealed that he could have used more seasoning in the minors. He got off to a horrible start with the Mets. He has not yet been able to turn it around. He took the loss in his previous two starts despite good performances. I'd really like to see him have some success.

Looks like Pelfrey is not going to get the recalled (in the short term)
The corresponding roster move figures to include Brian Lawrence, Monday’s scheduled starter, which would create an opportunity for someone else to pitch Saturday in Atlanta. That someone did not appear to be Mike Pelfrey, who was scheduled to pitch for Class AAA New Orleans on Tuesday.

Pelphrey was mentioned in this hilarious interview with ASU coach Pat Murphy about Dustin Pedroia...
So he just took the ball you gave him and ran with it?
PM: Oh my God. I’m telling you…this kid every game when we were facing a pretty good pitcher from Wichita State or Duke or something he’d lead off the game and hit a line drive and come running past the pitcher yelling ‘you better get used to it…I’m going to be hitting rockets off you all day.’ Then he hits a home run against [Mike] Pelfrey and he yells to him ’97 mph coming in and 197 mph going out’ as he’s rounding the bases. He’d just be chirping the whole game.
He’s really willed his way to the big leagues…he really has. Let’s break it down: He’s 5-foot-6, he’s can’t run, he’s not strong, his bat speed and his hands are tremendous because his arms are only about 11 inches long and so close to his body that he’s not getting to anything hit 5 or 6 inches to the right or left of him and he doesn’t have a lick of athletic ability…yet he’s a rookie of the year candidate.
Sounds like you guys have a good relationship.
PM: We do. We’re close and we talk all the time. I kid with him and ask him if he’s seen a pitcher that’s any good since he was up there, and he’s just like ‘nah’ I said c’mon there’s got to be at least a closer or two whose [expletive] is nasty right?’ He’ll just say ‘nah.’ His buddy Travis Buck hit that home run off Jonathan Papelbon up at Fenway Park earlier this season and he’s just the opposite of Pedro.' He told me that he couldn’t believe he hit it and he said he’s up there and his knees are shaking and he can’t even believe he’s in the game against Mariano Rivera or Papelbon.
You ask Pedro how their [expletive] is and he’ll just say that those guys suck and that they’re terrible. He’ll say they all throw terrible.

Rotoworld:
Mets are planning on recalling RHP Mike Pelfrey to start Saturday's game against Atlanta.
Pelfrey, who is 0-7 with a 5.92 ERA with the Mets this season, is only keeping the spot in the rotation warm for Pedro Martinez. Martinez will return to the major league rotation on Sept 8 or 9.

All the coaching the world isn't going to make Mike better until the little light bulb in his head turns on and he finally understands how to throw a breaking ball. He'll get it turned around.

I agree that Mike will get it turned around. I just believe that they could teach him an out pitch. I know he was trying to learn a slider, but hey why not teach him the cut fastball. If he could throw a 95 mph cut fastball he wouldn't have to have another pitch, and he could be the next Mariano Rivera. Granted that could be quite a hard pitch to learn! :) Best of luck Mike, here's to hoping you find it big guy!
