  • The age old topic

I know Kemnitz has had to discuss this every year...but I think it is time to start one of the TOP 3 in mid-week games.--the time has past for this year, but maybe next year.

The valley is absolutely horrible this year and the league has not exactly been great the last 10 years. Call me crazy but I think a win against a Long Beach St or an ASU would look a lot better to the committee more than a win against a Northern Iowa or a Creighton.--Yes I know our goal is to win the valley--but YAAAAAAWN.

    Just a thought-

If the draft goes the way people think, we might not even know who are top 3 are when fall ball starts.

Honestly I don't know that Musgrave, Shafer, or Capra would have pitched any better than Kelley and Hoch did last night and I really don't think anything would have been any different. I agree with Gene and think we use the top 3 for conference games and season those young guys every year by tossing them out against the stiff competition in the midweek. It builds character and establishes whats expected of them no matter who they play.

I agree with one point, Kelley pitched a gem last night through 6 innings. It's a shame this team has no reasonable offensive to back up their pitchers. That guy last night that ASU threw at us had a 9.00 ERA in 2 inning of work. Our guys should have lit him up, but can they? no. This team will continue to be overrated until they recruit and sign guys that can hit

Keep in mind that through 6 innings this horrible hitting team was out hitting one of the top offensive teams in the country.

Yeah, thanks to a CF who couldn't field routine fly outs we out hit them for awhile. We still got beat by a freshman who had only pitched 2 innings the entire year and had an ERA of 9.00.

Well when I left going into the 9th, we had 3 legitimate hits not a direct result of poor defense. ASU had about 6 or 7 balls hit right on the screws just right at our guys. Maybe the match up looks different with Shafer pitching for us and their ace pitching for them and CG and Williams, Jr playing, but last night there was no comparison between the two teams on the field. Their swings and approaches at the plate were so much better than ours it was laughable.

No doubt about it their swings and approach at the plate were way better than ours. I really thought the pitcher ASU put out last night pitched a hell of a game and was a very good pitcher. I'm not sure that the 2 innings he had pitched previously this year are a fair representation of what the kid could do on any given night as it is after all baseball. If the kid is on ASUs roster he has to have potential and talent and maybe he just had it last night and you mix that with the lack of adjustments we made at the plate and its not gonna go well. I thought he worked in and out well and pitched backwards all night using the breaking pitches to get ahead in the count and then throw the fastball high knowing we would bite and pop up in the thick air. We never made adjustments so he never had to either and I sure as hell wouldn't have if i was him. I thought he looked more impressive than his numbers or stats showed. Maybe ASU has a deeper pitching staff than most would think. Maybe our guys are thinking to much at the plate I don't know but here is to hoping they can get it fixed and out of their heads and get some confidence back because you could tell nobody but dirks and the pitchers had any last night.

i agree, i thought their pitcher did a pretty fine job.

for some reason, our guys popped quite a bit of balls up, idk if it was the wind, the dude might have some rise on his pitches, or swingin a little low..

ASU hit the ball well. tons of good swings. many line outs. we got lucky.

it was unforturnate that 2 of our top 5 hitters were out for this game.

WTF are you talking about? It wasn't our pitching that was the problem last night. Shafer or Musgrave or Capra could've pitched a masterful game of allowing 2 or 3 runs and it wouldn't have mattered because all we could put up was 1.

I don't get it. Our offense sucked monkey marbles and this guy starts a topic about how our midweek pitching for this game didn't get the job done? Against one of the nation's top hitting teams? .. Who is this guy?

And this was the case for most of our big midweek games - Nebraska shutout, OSU 3 runs, K-State 4 and 2 runs respectively, etc.

And FYI, our lead in the Valley is pretty much at zero. Depending on how MSU does at UNI next weekend, we have pretty much zero room for error.

                    Again.. who is this newb?

He didnt blame the pitching last night for the loss. He just commented about using one of our top 3 now and then in midweek games in general. You must be fluent in german...

Again... he didnt blame the ASU loss on our pitching. He suggested that maybe we should use one of our top 3 from time to time in big midweek games like long beach state or asu. Seems to me those are listed as examples cleary because they are the biggest names on the noncon schedule. That does not translate into "we lost the asu game because of bad pitching".
