Wasn't this same thing being said last year?

It is not like we are going to need to score 10 runs to win in the regionals. With our top 3 guys if we can scratch and claw for about 5 runs we should be able to win a few games in regional play. We are not going to be running out the same guys that we do in midweek in regional play. If we can get 7-8 innings out of our starters than we go to Hoch, Fleming or Nanney. I still like our chances in regional play with our starters and these three guys in the pen, if we can just realize we are not a power hitting team and learn to put the ball in play and like Shane was saying last night make productive outs and not always try to be the hero.

Our .307 average is 76th best out of 286 teams.

Our team ERA of 3.4 is ranked 6th out of the 286 teams. 8.04 hits allowed ranks us 7th, and 2.48 walks ranks us 2nd.

Our 31 home runs ranks us 169th. Dirks, leading the Shox with 8 homers, is 260th in the country. Connor leads the nation in triples.

Our 9 stikeouts per 9 innings ranks us 9th in the country.

        To the point about hitting:

Ga. Southern leads DI in Runs, Hits, Doubles, HR's, and Slugging percentage. They are in the top 3 in BA and Scoring.

        They are 28-20.

Wouldn't hitting like that combined with pitching like we have be wonderful?

Unfortunately this is all meaningless when you can't beat a good team.

It does show that the potential to beat those teams are there, we just haven't capitalized on our opportunities to do so.

downtown, you would be awesome in a debate class. your arguments are relevant and well supported with tangible facts. however, the fact remains, we are doing poorly against ranked teams, and for that matter, poorly against weaker teams from stronger conferences. intangibles of your tangible facts is the fact that they are averages, and are in no way achieved in consistent form.

we are not as good this year, and i am in agreement that recruiting has a lot to do with it. the staff needs to look outside of their mold, and start recruiting stone cold baseball players, as opposed to trying to develop projectability. physical acumen can give you an advantage, if you can play the game....we have guys that, quite frankly, can't. their have been players in this state that we could have had, and went for the prettier picks, even though they were proven players. example...ben carlson for mo state is leading the conference in home runs, from only 2 hours away in topeka. big physical kid, but slow, and a weak arm, so he goes to a "lesser" school. we need to recruit competitors, because we are lacking.

I wouldn't trade a single guy on our team for Ben Carlson in a hundred years. But thats just me.

apparently u like a team full of guys that can't get the job done in key situations. I sure don't, I'd trade a number of our guys for guys that could get the job done.

In the old days we had plenty of hitters, alot of them local too, for instance

                      Thomas
                      Standiford
                      TDriefort
                      DDriefort
                      Wimmer
                      CHall
                      JAdams
                      BHall
                      Audley
                      Taylor
                      Meares
                      Magness
                      Hooper
                      Stine

so maybe kids in kansas just can't hit anymore, maybe the assistant before Jt helped more with hitting, maybe our Head Coach has lost his fire, maybe Bk is more in charge of recruiting now and wouldn't know a hitter if one bit him on his tail, I don't know the answer but I'll bet anything there are still kansas kids that can hit.

You must be scouting talent out for gene then. Carlson could very well win the triple crown in the Valley this year. Highest average, most RBI's and most home runs. Just the kind of player WSU doesn't need.

In the coaches defense, two of this last years recruiting class were 1st round draft picks so I think they are going after baseball players, they just don't always make it to campus. So to another posters point that Brent might not know a hitter if it bit him on his tail, he obviously knows hitters, you just can't control the draft and what kids will do once drafted.
