Maybe when he does retire we can just get a good alum to coach the team....Eric Wedge?

to address the title of the thread...
no.
call me conservative, but i like what gene brings to the table. im sure there are many players out there that just come to WSU to play for the renowned gene stephenson.
i like gene's aggresive coaching style too.
unless Wedge were to drop into our laps I'd like gene to be our coach until he dies. he kind of deserves it. like Joe paterno. gene is WSU baseball.
just my thoughts and opinion.veni, vidi, vici

WSU does not offer a traditional college experience, does not have football, and no offense, is located in Kansas. The name WSU is also not as well known as our regional BCS counterparts as well.
Bottom line – if you’re going to compare WSU to schools such as KU and KSU (and I would venture >75% BCS), we shouldn’t lose recruiting battles based upon the things mentioned above.

He's also responsible for motivating his team. Gene is always fond of saying "Maybe the game has passed him by" - well maybe it has.
Or maybe he's just spending to much time chasing skirts instead of recruits (recruits that can hit)?

He talked about his fears that teh team was looking past the team last night and how he has warned them and talked to them about it on multiple occasions. He talked to the guys at the plate in the 9th and told them what they needed to do... get the damn ball in play. When Josh is striking out swinging for the damn fence instead of just getting his bat on the ball Gene cant do anything about it! Get off his ass and realize that 18 year old kids dont always listen. i'm sure you were the perfect college student and son at that age. Always listening to your teachers and following their advice to the tee right... yeah I bet you were.
