  • Owasso baseball...

Number one ranked high school team in the nation.

Brian Flynn has signed with us. Hes 6'8" 250 lb lefty.

I encourage everyone to go check the website out. Their facilities are second to none. Hell you could argue they are nicer than ours.

Some of you may remember Pete Kozma that had signed with us last year but went in the first 15 in the draft. He played there and his brother looks to be a senior this year. Also of note... the Bluma brothers came through the program also.

Also a front page article on the program in the most recent collegiate baseball newspaper. Getting lots of national pub right now.

An outdoor practice infield, an indoor practice facility and a baseball clubhouse.

That is sick for a high school.

I'm very happy to see that we continue to sign these guys but ... I can't get too excited, especially after last year. We sign up these guys and they never play with us. Year after year after year. Until I see them at fall ball, I just can't get too excited.

Considering the overall facilities, I was struck by the relatively sparse amount of seating.

That whole area where Owasso is lives and breathes baseball. It like nothing you could dream of seeing here.

Broken Arrow's is pretty sweet as well. Union is building a 3 million dollar indoor facility. It probably won't be long before Jenks will follow. And yes, unfortunately, most games aren't very well attended (other than scouts). Although, Union/Jenks and Owasso/Broken Arrow played Friday at the Tulsa Driller stadium (double header), it was pretty well attended.

For a program rich in tradition, I was suprised about the part on that website where it shows where former players (since 2000) went on to play college ball. I think out of 20-25 guys listed, 3 went to OU and 1 went to Kentucky, the rest went on to JUCO and smaller college programs I've never heard of.

You'd figure they would have placed more in high level D1 programs, but I'm betting the draft has impacted this result.

I was waiting for one these to come out.. Let's face it. The athletics pay for a lot of the school programs and teacher salaries.

In regards to the facilities.. think they could make a jump into D-1? Wow.

Those kids raise a lot of money. Those kids go out and generate money on their own for the program and facilities. Maybe we should get our players out pitching the new upgrades trying to generate a few bucks to get that last 400k for phase 1.

I'm certainly not saying those kids don't deserve the facilities they raised the money for. Its a societal thing. Communities would rather have a local high school with a winning football team than a passing grade on the state standardized tests.

                          Shock-it-to-me...

Have you ever done any research on the NCAA or the KSHSAA or any State HS Athletics Association?

The academic requirements are high to participate in sports in High School. They are even higher to qualify to play for DI or DII as a freshman. Sports keeps more kids in school than would if they didn't have them because then they would have no motivation to stay dedicated to the cause.

Are you guys insinuating these kids funded these facilities by washing cars and selling candy bars?
