Now the number is up to 8 and still no discussion from those 8. Makes you go....ummm, what's wrong here.

Guess it should not have been an anonymous poll.

I know the decision has already been made, but ADDB made no good argument.

        Head Coach - $175,000
        Pitching Coach - $80,000
        Asst Coach - $70,000
        DOBO - $33,000

Or any combination adding up to $358,000. Problem solved. No additional money required.
Actually, it's a bit better than that. He get's $385,000. And that was as of the beginning of his contract. I do not know if there were any COLA's or escalation clauses provided for that or not.

Actually, the Wichita Eagle reported it incorrectly.

Section 3.4.5 of the contract signed on 8/16/2013 states Subject to applicable NCAA and Conference rules, Mr. Butler shall have the prerogative to select and retain up to two (2) assistant baseball coaches and a director of Baseball Operations, subject to the approval of the AD. ICAA will provide the sum of THREE HUNDRED FIFTY-EIGHT THOUSAND AND NO/1.00 DOLLARS ($358,000.00) as a salary pool for Mr. Butler to hire and retain three (3) full-time coaching assistants.

Is that possible? Looks like a good ol' transposition error. One of my favorites.

This is exactly right...and why I have been mystified by anyone who actually believes WSU can't find a way to financially move on. It's really difficult to understand what the hell goes on with the decision-making by the administrators of this university all too frequently.

The relevant economics have nothing to do with what is remaining on Butler's contract...rather only on what you'd have to pay the new coach offset by lost revenue of the current turd product. That projected net is the decision factor.

If you take what DB said at face value, this decision was not about money. He is keeping him because he still believe in Butler.

Finances have nothing to do with any decision I’m making on the leadership of our baseball program,” he said. “We are acutely aware of the record and we are aware of what the expectation is. Those fans deserve to be frustrated, absolutely. But, if they’re supporters of the program, come support the program. If they don’t like any decisions I’m making, evaluate me. It’s my responsibility to evaluate the coaches.”

he isn't going to be fired this year. now, once they get drubbed in year 1 of aac participation..

gene stephenson pulled a rabbit out of his hat, turning the south-central kansas shockers into a perrenial ncaa powerhouse.. almost THE powerhouse. good luck matching that, to whomever chooses to take on the task.

Few here, if any, really expect what happened in the 80's and 90's to be repeated by the Shockers. No one will probably match that, nor would have Gene with what was going on in his later years.

This. The gap between that and where the program is now leaves miles and miles of real estate for a competent coach to build a program that captures the fanbase's interest.

From all indications, that's exactly right , SB. Boatright didn't give any other explanation or justification; he just took it upon himself and said that he was the one to be accountable, which suggests that he feels pretty confident in his position right now.

Alabama has fired Greg Goff. Butler used to be the hitting coach at Bama.

For a coach who recruits heavy on pitching. Pitching wasn't very good

Butler needs to go, period. First mistake was sighing him to that long of a contract. I think he feels safe knowing that WSU Doesn't want to by him out and are just hoping that he can put something together. Personally I don't see it getting better, actually going to a better league will just expose him and the team. Mediocre at best. Use to go to several games a year, not anymore, not for this
