If you're over .500, the administration can just point to it being an improvement so they don't have to pay that huge buyout.
    Nope.

It is purely a financial dilemma - the administration either is willing to front the costs now or they aren't. It would take a tremendous postseason run for merit to even enter the equation.

I think a 3rd place finish guarantees Butler another year. Money in the athletic department is tight with the move to the American. It's pretty easy to justify keeping a coach around who gets a 3rd place finish.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

3rd place and irrelevant versus 4th place and irrelevant isn't going to make an iota of difference, come on.

He may very well be back but tomorrow's outcome is as consequential as a fart in the wind with respect to that decision. We aren't selling a single extra season ticket next year based upon a 3rd place instead of a 4th place finish. HCTB is either coming back based upon an assessment of the balance sheet or he isn't - tomorrow doesn't move the needle an iota in either direction.

Just for some discussion: define "tremendous postseason run." Taking money out of the equation, what would it take to convince the fanbase to support retaining Todd? Regional final? Super regional? Omaha?

Good q - something along the lines of (1) an MVC Tournament championship plus (2) a runner up finish in a regional would earn my enthusiasm for a return next year. Anything beyond that would be a windfall.

            Lottery odds, certainly.

This would be the very least for me, or not enough, simply because he has not won a Valley regular season championship (not even finished 2nd), a previous Valley tournament, or had an at-large level team. I am most upset about no success at the lowest expectation level.

Will be interesting to see what kind of pitch count Robby Evans has today if he is effective. Codi Heuer is probably fully stretched heading into the MVC Tournament after last night and should be able to shoulder 100 pitches next weekend if he needs to. I would think the goal would be for Robby to stretch to at least 80 pitches today with the same goal in mind for next weekend.

SIU's finale at Bradley has been cancelled due to weather. Salukis finish MVC play at 10-10.

WSU will now earn a 3 seed with a win or fall to a 5 seed with a loss.

Things are really simple today. If we win we finish 3rd, if we lose we finish 5th.

I would agree unless dollars are put together from outside sources for a buyout.

2 run jack by Jenista in the top of the 3rd puts WSU ahead 2-0.

Evans has been effective so far but is throwing a lot of pitches.

Impressive and efficient 1-2-3 third inning for Robby.

Still 2-0 Shocks to the 4th.

Was curious about when the last time the Shockers won a 3 game road series - March 20-22, 2015 at SIU.

Not really worried about jinxing given the magnanimity of the achievement.

3-0 in the top of the 6th as Jenista lifted another bomb in the 5th.

                              Robby Evans has been fantastic - 5 IP, 0 R, 5 K, 2 H, 3 BB on 81 pitches.

Just think, this team has a chance to finish over .500 and finish 3rd in the conference with an inept head coach that probably couldn't even coach a T-ball team. Just imagine what they could do with a coach that actually has a clue. Frustrating indeed.
