But unfortunately, as far as Hayes is concerned, there are a lot more bad John Hayeses in the pen than there are good ones. Some of those incaranations aren't even on our side, as best I can tell. And it's frequently tough to find one of the good ones, especially with the game on the line.

Think about it. You can get fired and sit on your ass and get paid. Or you can come back and coach to no one in the stands, listen to critics berate you and inflict more misery upon yourself and the program.
Why else would you pitch Hayes? There is no other explanation.
