  • Shocks vs SFA - Tuesday and Wednesday

Freshman Connor Lungwitz giving the Shocks a real shot in the arm in his 1st career start.

He has pitched 6 scoreless, 2 hit innings while recording 10 strike outs. Sounds like a power pitching effort but it really wasn't. He was really working his breaking pitches and a changeup into the mix and had pretty good command of all his pitches. Had SFA batters guessing and off balance. A real nice job of pitching and not just throwing.

I think Connor is probably finished for the night.

    Shocks lead 5-0 through 6.

That it does. Glad to hear that it wasn't just my computer. I finally turned it off.

                Shocks 10 - Lumberjacks 2.

Tyler Gibson went the final 3 innings allowing the Lumberjacks only runs in the 9th on a 2-run homer with the game out of reach. According to Shane Dennis this SFA team is a pretty good hitting team so getting a very well pitched game is certainly the highlight of the night.

The Shocks received a lot of charity from SFA tonight but they did get long balls from Tanner Kirk (a solo shot to left helped by the wind) and Greyson Jenista (a 3-run blast to right that needed no help).

Good job Shocks! Now try to keep it going.

Good night too for Lady Shocker softball team as they exploded for 5 runs in the top of the 8th to beat KU in Lawrence 6-1 tonight.

Our pitching was very good today. Our bats were very alive. This is the team that I enjoy watching and will support. If we could play like this every game I could see us finishing 36-23 with a 17-5 MVC record. Oh well, a man can dream.

That would seem to qualify as a dream. Hopefully, Connor can develop into a reliable 3rd starter for the weekend games by Valley time. Shane did not think they would bring him back this next Sunday but we'll see. Having one good game is one thing. Doing it on a consistent basis is another but Connor certainly looked good tonight.

For now, let's just see how tomorrow goes. BTW, the game tomorrow is at 1:00pm.

They are now 12-14 with an RPI of 76 and a SOS of 45. Based on the info provided by Mike and Shane on tonight's broadcast sounds like their pitching and defense is a bit questionable. Their hitting seems to be their biggest strength. Not world beaters by any means but not totally toothless either.

Shocks are now around 211 in the RPI with an SOS of 117.

RPI and SOS rankings per WarrenNolan.com
