We have scored a lot of runs late in games but in many of those games we are hopelessly behind by large margins. In those circumstances opponents tend to try to get some innings out of the bottom of their bullpen staffs. Yes, we do seem to be able to beat up on those guys but I am not sure that is anything to get real excited about.
The one exception to that was the Game 1 of the Sam Houston State game when we knocked their ace around pretty bad and took a 9-1 lead only to have Tewes and our bullpen imploded over the final 4 innings of the game giving up 14 runs.
That said I do think we can score enough to win games with decent pitching. However, outside of perhaps Sam Tewes and Willie Schwanke it is hard to see where that will come from. However, Sam's ERA is 6.91 and Willie's is 4.80 so even that is not assured. The most dependable guy so far this year has been Zack Lewis who has a 1.32 ERA over 13.2 innings. Regain Beichler has not allowed an earned run yet this year but he is a lefty-on-lefty specialists who rarely pitches more than one inning per outing.
Excluding Zach and Reagan the Shock's team era is 7.66 and we are just now coming to the meat of our non-conference schedule. We don't hit that well especially against front-line pitching.
At this point there simply is very little reason to be the least bit optimistic about this Shocker team. Could that change? Yeah it could, but I wouldn't bet my lunch money on it.Last edited by 1972Shocker; March 8, 2016, 04:08 PM.

Hmmmm. What a matchup: two teams who couldn't handle Sam Houston State, who in turn are winless against everyone else -- although to give them their due, they've played a solid schedule; so far Gene's two most recent programs (four if you count the brief dalliance in Norman and return to WSU) are the RPI dead weight for the Kats.
