  • Shocks at New Mexico

Okay I have no clue how to edit the tables so someone will have to let me know and I will fix it. Sorry for the ugliness.

The New Mexico Lobos of the Mountain West finished 32-27 last year and 17-13 in the conference making it to the championship game of the conference tournament. We swept them in a weekend series in Wichita 6-5, 8-6, and 6-5. In 2016 the Lobos are 3-1 playing the University of Hawaii all four games. Just like the Shocks, the Lobos got lots of help in their opening series getting 41 free passes (38 walks and 3 HBP). They also collected 49 hits and SO 30 times in the 4 game series. The Lobos are hitting .316 and have held their opponents to a .216 average. The Lobos are fielding .970 committing 5 errors.

By comparison, WSU has also received 41 free passes (35 BB and 6 HBP). We have 37 hits and have SO 43 times in our 4 games. We are hitting .266 and held our opponents to a .221 average. We are fielding .979 committing 3 errors.

Offensively the Lobos have five players (with 6 or more ABs) hitting over .421. Below are the leaders:

avg ab r h 2b 3b hr rbi slg bb hbp so
    JR 1B Jack Zoellner .500 16 6 8 3 0 1 4 .875 7 0 0
    SR SS Dalton Bowers .467 15 1 7 1 0 0 5 .533 4 0 4
    SR 2B Michael Eaton .421 19 5 8 2 0 1 1 .684 3 0 3
    SR 3B Jared Holley .500 6 1 3 0 1 0 2 .833 2 2 0
    SO C Scottie Graham .429 7 0 3 1 0 0 6 .571 3 0 0

On the mound the Lobos have received great starting pitching with their starters going at least 5 innings in every game. They have given up 28 hits in 37.1 innings SO 28 and giving up 19 free passes and have a staff ERA of 2.17. By comparison, the Shocks have given up 29 hits in 35 innings while SO 42 and giving up 22 free passes and have a staff ERA of 2.83.

On the mound the Lobos are led by the following starters:
era w-l ip h r er bb so avg
    SR LHP Colton Thomson 0.00 1-0 6.0 2 0 0 1 5 .100
    SO RHP James Harrington 1.29 1-0 7.0 4 1 1 1 3 .160
    JR LHP Carson Schneider 3.60 1-0 5.0 4 2 2 3 2 .222
    SO RHP Tyler Stevens 3.60 0-0 5.0 3 2 2 5 5 .214

There are also some relievers who are off to a nice start:
era w-l ip h r er bb so avg
    FR LHP Austin Isenhart 0.00 0-0 3.2 3 0 0 2 4 .214
    SR RHP Drew Bridges 0.00 0-0 1.0 0 0 0 1 1 .000
    SR LHP Alex Estrella 0.00 0-0 1.0 0 0 0 0 0 .000
    JR RHP Matt Villalobos 0.00 0-0 1.2 3 0 0 1 0 .429

THIS is really not fun to watch. So very tired of the same thing.

For the record, I may be down on the direction of the program, but I'm a huge sucker for WSU sports, and outside of basketball, that particularly applies to baseball.

I'll keep putting myself through this crap in the hopes we get better, and soon.

We have to go 3-0 against UNM or I'll really flip a lid. My faith will be restored and I'll chalk up the first 4 games as an anomaly if we can get the sweep.

3-0 won't happen. Book it. I'm thinking 1-2 if the Shox get serious about baseball; otherwise, I expect lots of Ks by WSU hitters and an 0-3 series. UNM going 3-1 on the road vs. Hawai'i should send up a red flag - this series is going to be tough.

BTW (to the OP), I'm not sure how 4 of their starting pitcher could be 1-0 if their record is 3-1.

There is a "VIDEO" link from the GoShockers.com schedule page that links to campusinsiders.com. Give that a try. Looks like Friday only.

LOL that is how good their starters are. They go 1-0 even in a loss! Good catch! That's what happens when you can't figure out the formatting and you hand type things. Thanks

To format stat text, I think you surround the text in the "code" tag which preserves white space and uses a fixed width font.

                    Code:
                    Test. 1.0 2.0 4.0
                    Testing 3.1 5.2 6.3

I thought the game was at 3:00, so pulled my TuneIn app out. Wrong. Thought it was 3:00 PM Mountain Time (4:00 CST).... still wrong. I finally checked the website. 7:00 PM. Geesh.

Yep, disappointing. One of the things I like about winter baseball is having something to listen to at work.

6-1 in the 3rd. This is a nightmare.
