The Shockers have one of their bigger weeks of the season this week.
Washington State comes to Wichita on Wednesday night, one night after playing Kansas State in Manhattan. The Cougars are 9-2 on the season, including grabbing 2 out of 3 from Creighton at home, sweeping a 2 game series at UNLV, beating Wright State 3 times fairly easily, and this last weekend taking 3 out of 4 games from Kent State at home. Wazzou will spend its entire spring break in the midwest on a tough road trip, finishing the 6 game week with a four game series with Oklahoma in Norman.
Overall, the Cougars are a solid team that could really create some problems for the Shockers if their bats get hot. Statistically, they were the worst hitting team in the Pac 10 a year ago. Although that doesn't seem to be the case this year, as they are averaging over 10 runs per game.
Over the weekend, the Shocks have a big showdown with TCU at the Eck. The Horned Frogs have had an up and down start to their 2008 season, most recently taking 2 out of 3 from #2 Mississippi in Fort Worth. After dropping 4 of their first 7 games, the Frogs have turned it around winning 4 of their last 5. The weekend rotation has been very good to TCU, as they allowed just 3, 4, and 1 runs in each of the games over the weekend.
This would be a very good week for the Shockers to step it up and take 4 games. Taking 3 would be very good, but anything less tells me this team isn't ready to be ranked in the top 25. We have to get a good start out of someone on Wednesday night, because the Cougars have been mashing thier opponents pitching. Hopefully we continue to solidify the lineup more this week, as several players stepped up over the weekend and are pushing starters for positions.
