There vwas a time years ago, back when WSU was a national power and Creighton was a frequent NCAA regional team as well (by the way, search on "Jim Audley throw" if you want to relive some early 90's WSU baseball excitement) when several days of chilly rain left the tournament unfinished and the field in bad shape, and the Valley did declare an outcome. But I don't remember exactly when, or what criteria they used -- it may have been regular season results; I just don't recall.

It was 1988. Cu and Wsu were playing and the game was tied 3-3 in the 8th inning. If Cu had beaten Wsu they would have had to beat Wsu a second time to win the title. Wsu had also won the regular season and the head to head games with Cu, so the MVC named Wsu the champs. Both teams were actually tourney worthy but the committee only gave the Valley one bid. It may have been a punishment for not getting their tourney finished on time.
