The $0.50 hot dogs were good and the game was very entertaining although after the Shox fell behind 6-0 I wouldn't have given you a $0.50 hot dog for their chances. Glad I stuck around though.

The team is really swinging the bats well right now but I just don't think we can hit enough to carry the pitching staff. Sam Hilliard was squaring up everything tonight. Not sure what the attendance was tonight but we all could have easily hung our laundry out to dry on Sam's line drives.

I guess the most important thing is the guys haven't cashed it in despite their struggles this season and maybe, just maybe we are seeing some progress.

I really like the way the 2 freshman catchers swing the bats. The only question will be how good will they be defensively. Gunnar had some troubles on low pitches early in the game.

Unbelievable. I didn't even realize OU was ranked 25th in a poll.

The bats seem to be there pretty consistently. It's the God-forsaking pitching and occasional suspect defense that's really the difference from being 26-18 instead of 18-26.

It's a shame the winning streak will stop at 4 but I agree, it's nice to see some fight in a season that'll come down to one week in late May.

WSU and OU played a total of 17 times in a modern series that ran from the 2002 season to the 2009 season. The split was 7 wins for WSU and 10 for OU (including 3 NCAA regional games - all won by OU). We last beat OU in 2006, so like the commentators mentioned it has in fact been 9 years since we beat OU, but it has been 6 since we even played them.

RPI was the official reason given by Sonny Golloway for killing off the series, but in reality that was a red herring as Golloway and Stephenson had no love lost. WSU's RPI back then was fine, so SG's comment was asinine to anyone who followed college baseball at the time. Obviously SG and GS are both gone now, so we're playing each other again.

Good Lord, if that ain't the truth.

Interestingly, MSU has stuck with their 30+ year coach who had his fair share of mediocre seasons even terrible ones (the year they made the Valley tourney only because they were hosting). And now, they have a Top 20 team.

Just makes you wonder if things weren't cut too quickly with the previous regime because of impatience of a couple bad seasons (which occurred in a completely changed environment of college baseball)

            Agree completely with these sentiments.

I think we also played OU in the NCAA Regional here in 2002 in which we beat them in an elimination game. That was the regional where ORU roasted us in the other two games. That one irked the **** out of me.

Worth noting — Freshman pitcher Jeb Bargfeldt was scheduled to start before shoulder tightness intervened. Butler does not consider it a long-term setback … WSU snapped a seven-game losing streak to Oklahoma. The Shockers last defeated OU in 2006, although they had not played since 2009 … WSU’s four-game win streak is the season’s second-longest. The Shockers won five in a row in mid-March.

I caught the game off my DVR from ESPNU and watched it around 10 last night. The first few innings, I was yelling at my wife that the catcher was killing the strike zone by not simply catching the ball. He was moving all over to block it more than catch it, and many of the pitches thrown were actually good pitches, but there was no way the umpire was going to call any of them strikes with the way he was jumping all around.

thanks ShockValue. As others have pointed out, Missouri State gives me hope for the future. If they can do it there is no doubt in my mind that we can too. I have been hard on TB at times, but I do think he is a great recruiter and knows what he is doing. I dont know if we will ever be back to where we were in the late 80's/ early 90's, with the way the baseball landscape has changed. But with our facilities and resources there is no reason we cannot expect to be a top 30 team consistently. Someone pointed out earlier that basketball may not be where they are today if our fans stopped supporting them when they were having down years, I think that is the reason most fans ( not including myself because I am a fairly new shocker supporter, 7 years now ) take such pride in the basketball team is because the fan base was still there when we werent the greatest and now we are reaping the benefits. I would love for that to be the case with baseball as well.

My dad left because of an obnoxious OU fan. :-) He's 72 and just doesn't have it in him to listen to that all night. He was happy to see the Shox win on ESPNU

                      That sucks!

I was there and didn't see any obnoxious behavior/interaction with either OU or WSU fans. Not enough people; not enough at stake.

He could have just changed seats. There were plenty of options for that but the game did run pretty late and it was getting a little cool so I don't blame anyone who left early especially those with kids or older folks (that would include me).

The Volleyball team was in attendance but they had pretty much cleared out by the middle of the game.

I happened to look up at the CWS appearances last night and realized that WSU went to the CWS five times in a six-year span and six times over nine years. You will be hard-pressed to see that ever happen again by anyone, particularly the 5-of-6 run. I don't care if you are Texas, Florida State, etc. It is harder to get to Omaha. With the expanded NCAA Tournament with Super Regionals, you now have to win at least 5 games to get to Omaha (6 if you don't win your first two in the regional). It seems like 4 wins would have done the trick in the pre-Super Regionals format.

I did not realize that Trey Vickers was dealing with so many physical issues. I would had have to say he is a pretty tough kid.

I just reviewed the replay of the 1st 3 innings focusing on the what you have described. I guess we just see things differently because I did not see one strike that Gunnar boxed or mishandled in any way that cost his pitchers a strike. In fact, there were 2 pitches I thought were border line strikes that I though he did a nice job of framing that helped his pitcher get a called strike. That was the 1st strike to the #4 hitter in the 1st inning and the 2nd strike to the 10 hitter to bat in the 2nd. He had two passed balls on low pitches in the 1st inning that I thought he should have stopped. However, those pitches were not close to being strikes. Fortunately, those passed balls proved to be harmless. Heck in the 2nd inning there weren't many balls in the strike zone that missed the fat part of the OU bats.
