So I was thinking, it wouldn't be too hard to demonstrate that Nebraska uses paid, not actual numbers. With that, I decided to spend 15 minutes to break down Nebraska basketball attendance nice and easy, using FACTS from the readily available numbers provided by A: The University of Nebraska, and B: the NCAA.

Here is the attendance figures as Nebraska reported on their 16 regular season home games. My source, http://www.huskers.com/SportSelect.d...&Q_SEASON=2013

    15,119 Fl Gulf Coast
    14,771 Western Illinois
    14,765 So. Caroliona State
    15,332 Northern Illinois
    15,088 Miami
    15,949 Arkansas State
    14,978 The Citadel
    15,012 Michigan
    15,342 Ohio State
    15,945 Minnesota
    15,333 Indiana
    15,404 Illinois
    15,797 Penn State
    15,891 Purdue
    15,978 Northwestern
    15,998 Wisconsin

Anyone here can total these up, but I get 246,702. Divided by 16 games, you get an average of 15,419 per game. Now is where it gets fun. you look at the REPORTED FIGURES TO THE NCAA, and Nebraska's official reported attendance was 246,702. They averaged 15,419 per game. They did not report actual, they reported paid. Period. This is according to this: http://fs.ncaa.org/Docs/stats/m_bask...ttend/2014.pdf

So, Nebraska reports paid attendance. Unfortunately for Shock Treatment, when there are huge disparities, or the Omaha World Herald calls bullshit and asks for actuals, Nebraska reluctantly adds them to the Box score. In the 2013-14 seasdon, Nebraska gave these actuals:
    10,834 Western Illinois
    10,974 So. Carolina State
    11,358 Northern Illinois
    12,579 Miami
    11,048 Arkansas State
    15,107 Indiana
    14,412 Illinois

If Nebraska reported actual figures for every game, as they do when the World Herald asks, their attendance figures would drop substantially. This demonstrates everything I have said all along, Nebraska reports paid attendance, period. The World Herald has called bullshit. When asked, Nebraska will give the World Herald turnstyle, otherwise, they don't. Even then, Nebraska only reports PAID ATTENDANCE to the NCAA. It's not that hard to understand. Unless, you are a mindless, clueless, believe everything that they tell you on the Husker Radio show, kind of guy.

For everyone else, I'm not knocking how Nebraska reports, it is exactly how I'd report. The NCAA allows for tickets sold as a way to measure attendance, why would anyone short change their school? That is why Nebraska and just about, if not everybody else, reports tickets sold.

I hope this puts to bed all this silliness. Probably not, Husker fans are like that.
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

March 16th, 2011 must have sucked for Shock Treatment.
        Yeah, sucked for him.

I just wish I could get MBB season tickets for the Shocks for $85 per like you can for the Huskers. Cheapest now for WSU tickets is roughly $500 per. Doesn't Creighton also have dirt cheap, nose bleed, season tickets as well? What is it about hoops in Nebraska where practically giving away tickets and then puffing your chest out about faux attendance numbers is a thing? So strange.

The cheap seats, the Joan of Arc/ groupon seats they offer during Thanksgiving break and Christmas, are horrible. They are really high, really far away, and the players look like ants. Unless you want to watch the whole game on the video board, take in the ambiance of being in a crowd, and paying too much for a beer, $85 for those seats is no bargain. Im in for doing anything, I've even taken in a monster truck rally, a tractor pull and a rodeo, I won't pay for those seats.

I'm not proud of the monster truck jam, tractor pull and rodeo, I don't want to hear another word about it.

When I lived in Sioux City, God help me, I had Sioux City Musketeer tickets. If I moved to Cedar Falls, I'd have Panther football tickets, I do what the people in the city do. I'm not going to foresake games because I'm not a fan of the school. Then again, I never mistook Musketeer hockey as the NHL and I wouldn't confuse Panther football with bigtime.

              End of silly non sequitur.

Here is the results for 2015 attendance. An interesting result of the WSU deciding (miscalculation?) to not make the MVC tournament part of the season ticket package is we get to see what were butts in seats. Second at least perception-wise - the university took a hit - they were on target to hit 3,000-3,100 average which would have been somewhere between +100 to +200 (+3.4 to 6.8%) over 2014, but ended up at 2,841 which is drop of -74 (-2.5%). The 3,000 value would have ranked WSU 18 or 19, the 2,841 drops them down to 22 or 23 nationally.

Update to the attendance for 2016. It clear the honeymoon is over with Butler.

I'd love to see actual attendance figures. I know you can't get those but I'm sure that average is hovering around +/- 100?

4300? Man, those were the days...

I suspect that a good part of that bump in 2015 was due to the fire sale prices they offered for season tickets last year making that bump an artificially manufactured anomaly that should more or less be ignored..

Or maybe it was excitement about the big time recruiting class he had and that it should have been Butler's breakout year, since the majority of the players were his?

I can only speak for myself. I bought two of the $30 season tickets last year because they were too cheap to pass up and were cheaper than buying individual tickets to the number of games I normally attend. I can say for a fact the hype about the recruiting class never even entered my thinking. However, it is possible that I am the outlier.

It is possible that this year's actual attendance my establish a program 1st. It may well be the 1st time that the actual attendance at Shocker softball games exceeds the actual attendance at Shocker baseball games.

I want to support the program and players, but dang, it just sucks to spend the gas, time and money to watch 6-17.

Come on, 5150 -- get with the program: they're 7-16, not 6-17! Will that change your mind about going out to watch? (This message brought to you by the Keep Todd Butler Committee, chaired by Mrs. Melissa Butler.)

By the way, I just looked at the baseball "Fact Book" on goshockers to make sure I was getting Mrs. Butler's name right, and I was startled to see that under Butler's coaching record, it lists both his totals as a head coach, which of course one would expect (still above .500 coming into this season, by the way -- although barely, and not nearly enough to weather the storm of 2016) AND his teams' totals while he was an assistant. Huh? Since when does the record of the team for which you served as an assistant count as part of your coaching record? Good heavens. (By that method of counting, Stephenson would probably blast well past 2000 wins for his career, considering the success of Oklahoma baseball before he struck out on his own.)
