  • Attendance Question

For those that have season tickets, how many games have you attended this year? How many do you plan on going to?

I'm a first time baseball season ticket who was duped into the $30 deal. We have two seats and have attended exactly 1 game this year. I'm thinking if there is absolutely nothing better to do on a weekend, we may be bored enough to get our $ out of the deal and perhaps attend 1-2 more games.

Just curious what long-time season ticket holders have done, short-term holders have done, and even non-season ticket holders have done.

    ... No really, deuces.

I've been to 4. Plan to attend a couple/few more as time/weather permits.

I'm not thrilled with the product or the direction of the program, but I'm a pretty huge sucker for WSU athletics and will continue to support in hopes that brighter days are ahead.

I've been to 3, but my work schedule hinders me from attending until later in the year. I'm hoping to get to most of the home games at the last stretch of the season.

I'm in the same boat work schedule-wise plus I don't like cold-weather baseball. I have not been to any games but I too am hoping to catch a good number of the remaining games.

I will probably try to catch the MVC Tournament games although not sure I will buy an All-Session pass or individual game tickets. I suppose it will depend on how the All-Session passes are priced.

This year has certainly been disappointing but I am a long way from throwing in the towel on the Shocker baseball program.

I generally don't buy season tickets because it doesn't make sense for me although I did pick up a couple of the $30 packages this year. While I have not been to a game yet a friend of mine has used those pair of tickets from about 6 games so far.

I have had season tickets for over 20 years and have been to perhaps 3 games. I attended a couple games very early when the weather happened to be really nice and was at the 12-8 loss, although I left with the win in hand at 8-4.

I love baseball and fresh air. If the weather is great, I will probably attend another game or two. I sure am glad I didn't spring for MVC tournament tickets.

We have had 2 seats for about 10yrs. We split them up around the office so everybody gets some weekend games. Day games on week days nobody uses. Weekends if the weather is perfect they will go. So I go to about 3 games a year average. I've never been a big baseball guy, my favorite part is the beer and hotdogs, everything else is secondary.

I used to have the punch pass but didn't renew because of family and work conflicts. My father and I have had discussed getting a pair tickets but never acted. Then the wonderful week of ticket offers rolled around and I took the initiative and purchased 2 box seats a stone throw away from @kai:. My father lives south of Wichita while I live in the Goddard area. My father has made 3 or so games, mostly early in the season. He was beyond frustrated at the low baseball IQ of the team. I have attended roughly 9 games with my wife or son making 3 or so of those games.

Surprisingly, I am still on the fence for tickets next season.

I will add that one thing that irritates me is the concession prices and the lack of running water for the water fountains. $4 for a fooking bottle of water is criminal. I am not exaggerating when I say it cost less in 3rd and 4th world countries where they lack running water.

Zero, and possibly zero. I am not highly invested though as I got a pair for $25 each.

It is really hard to bring myself to go; it is like watching a loved one suffer a slow death. Hard to get excited about that.

HCTB may still get it done, but these are bad, bad times.

I have been to every home game and two away games. I added two more season tickets this year due to the fire-sale in February. I have 5 all session passes to the MVC tournament and will probably attend every game. As painful as it is right now, I will continue to support the team. I think the jury is out on whether HCTB can right the ship, but I will be at every game (work schedule permitting) and continue to support the players.

EDIT: I spend about $30 per game more for beer now than when we were winning!!! I don't have a drinking problem, I just find the games to be more fun that way. :)

I'd like to reiterate this. I'm sorry, but concessions are just way too expensive for my taste. I think it's $8 for a beer. I think hotdogs are $4. I went to a game early in the year when it was an early afternoon game midweek, and thought to myself "I'll go catch an inning or two and grab a bite to eat over my lunch break." I did that once. Sorry, $12 for lunch and it's a beer and hotdog seems criminal.

Correct me if my prices are wrong, it's been since the early season since I purchased any food.

I agree. I view purchases at the concession stands as an additional contribution to Shocker athletics that unfortunately you don't get any SASO points for. I suppose some of that is also a contribution to whatever organization is running the concessions. I guess they still do that.

The prices of concessions at any sporting event are pretty outrageous.

Our athletic department actually lowered concession prices this year. Everything is $1 cheaper.
They did a survey in the off-season and apparently concession prices were a big issue for people.

I tell you one time the concessions were reasonable and that was during the Shocker Fall World Series when Shelley Wombacher was still around. Shelley and her husband would volunteer to cook burgers and dogs on a grill near the concession stand behind the 1st base dugout and they would sell them from $1.00 each. I think soft drinks were also $1.00 each. And those grilled burgers and dogs were a lot better than you would normally get at the concession stands.

Not sure if anyone has done that since Gene has left. Seemed to me like Shelley really put her heart and soul into Shocker baseball and of everyone involved in the coaching transition and the apparel-gate that maybe Shelley got the worst treatment.

I really, really enjoyed those $1.00 burgers and dogs at the FWS games thanks to Shelley and her hubby. They sure as hell weren't doing it for the money.

I was going to Shocker baseball games early on and had been using the punch pass in later years. I tried to get out to at least one game of every series (although I'm not pleasant to be around during cold and yucky weather). I quit going about 5 years ago due to my intolerance to increased and/or high salaries with a lot of off the field drama for a declining product on the field. I didn't purchase any tickets last year due to us being gone a lot during the ball season, but felt afterwards, I should have still supported the program. I was going to get a punch pass this year, but opted for the discounted season ticket offer.

I have been to 5 games so far, but had planned on more. Had my Shocker colors on, but health issues with my parents stopped me one game and caused me to miss two others I would have gone to. Don't buy food/drink very often at Eck, CKA, or Intrust, but opt for snacks in my pocket at ball games and the pop/popcorn room at CKA and eating/drinking before and after games.

I plan on continuing to support the baseball program as long as the coaching staff(s) and players continue to represent the program and themselves in a positive manner. Butler has my support for at least 2 more years to turn things around and then show continued growth in the program for the salary he is being paid. I'm not big on money sponges that don't work.

I continued to support the basketball program through their dark age (I particularly liked Coach Thompson), but Randy gave me some cause by the time his last year rolled around. I hope supporters of Shocker athletics do for baseball what they did for basketball. Sometimes, it's not about the wins and losses, but the program and the young men and women playing the games. Regardless of how you felt about Gene and his exit, this is still a Shocker program with a coach and players that should have our support. That doesn't mean we should not criticize, but not supporting the ball program because of Gene being gone (or how it all went down) or not attending or supporting because of W/Ls may only make this program die (and Gene's legend with it). We gave basketball a long time to right the ship. Let's give baseball more than a few seasons. The less it's supported, the harder it will be to get quality players and, if need be, a quality future coach.
