      Scholarships

One of the interesting aspects about all this has to do with the fact that some players earn academic scholarships rather than athletic scholarships. During the 2013 season, I couldn't figure out how Gene S could have 34 guys on the roster whereas I knew that only 27 could have athletic scholarships (known to be divided among 11.7 full scholarships per NCAA rules). As I recall, the remaining 2 or 3 players were walk-ons. It turned out that there were 5 players on academic scholarships only including Garrett Bayliff. Shelly Wombacher is the person who told me that. I lost track of which players were on academic scholarships this year, but it is a factor to keep under consideration

Trivia question : when's the last time we have had a first round pick in MLB and the NBA in the same year?

I'll admit I had to look it up, but due to lack of options in basketball, I figured it went back to either 1985 or 1983. Nobody in the MLB draft in 1985, so in 1983, Antoine Carr, Erik Sonberg, and Russ Mormon were all first-rounders (although Mormon did not sign).
