  • I still don't buy for one minute that Gene didn't known what was happening.

If that's the case then I guess Shelley (and perhaps some of the players involved) decided to fall on her (their) sword for her (their) old boss (coach).

Whether or not Gene knew, it is my opinion that he is to blame considering that he refused to allow athletic department oversight of the baseball program (which ultimately got him fired). If you make it exclusively your show, it is your fault if rules are broken whether you specifically knew about it or not.

Good point. Gene may have put the program on cruise control over his last couple of years once he could see the handwriting on the wall.

Butler waits, not altogether patiently, on a ruling from the NCAA regarding the Under Armour investigation. “We still do not have an answer from the NCAA,” Butler said. “It’s kind of been a little stressful just figuring out who is going to be able to play.” While Butler declined to reveal players he expects to be suspended, he did say the pitching staff will be most affected. As many as 11 Shockers could sit out six, 12 or 18 games for their role in ordering non-baseball gear at a 50-percent discount through Under Armour. That may require juggling of roles early in the season. “Position players, you can kind of adjust,” Butler said. “We may have a starter who’s forced to relieve, or vice versa.” Butler has lineups prepared to account for possible suspensions. Should WSU not hear from the NCAA, he is prepared to sit players and count on the NCAA honoring those games as time-served. WSU has asked for leniency on the suspensions, reducing them to three, six and nine games, because it self-reported the violations.

                • There is absolutely no reason whatsoever that the NCAA could not make a timely ruling in this matter IF they really wanted to and if they really gave a rat's ass about the student athletes.

                  • They didn't do anything to North Carolina and their academic scandal but watch them hit us hard. I hate the NCAA so much.

                      • I wouldn't be surprised if nothing is finalized until April. The Hairston thing at UNC and the Miami investigation are terrific examples of how the NCAA could not care less about getting anything done in a timely manner.

"WSU will throw Cale Elam in the opener, followed by A.J. Ladwig and Garrett Brummett."

Am I getting my hopes up too much that this means those 3 starters are not facing any suspension? I will not be disappointed if this whole thing results in Brummett being in the weekend rotation from the beginning of the year...

                          • The NCAA has spoken. Hopefully we'll hear later today from WSU as to who sits how long.

                              • I thought Cale was slated to start today and Garrett on Sunday.

In any case it's good to have this resolved and know what we are dealing with.

I guess it could have been a lot worse, but, with the exception of Drew Palmer, all of guys serving suspensions are key components. They are also mostly upperclassmen.
