WSU Conducting Internal Review Into Baseball Program

WICHITA, Kan. – The Wichita State athletic department is conducting an exhaustive internal review regarding improper clothing and apparel benefits to members of the baseball team that was identified during the coaching transition.

“We take this matter very seriously,” Director of Athletics Eric Sexton said. “Our commitment to institutional integrity is unwavering and we must hold everyone associated with our athletics programs accountable for lapses in judgment. We believe this to be an isolated case limited to our baseball program. However, we will look into this exhaustively to ensure our compliance with the Missouri Valley Conference and NCAA rules.”

Wichita State will not comment further until the internal review has been completed.

There have been two head coaches at WSU in the last 40 years. Odds are that it was discovered by the new coaching staff which would implicate the former coaching staff. Thats just my hunch and I have been known to be wrong.

Or, a Gene loyalist divulged this as retribution after he was fired, knowing the AD would have to investigate and any penalties would be suffered by the current staff/program.

I know that's pure speculation on my part. We may never know how it went down.

I'm guessing what happened is that the equipment room got raided after Gene cleared out but before Butler arrived. Probably guys grabbing extra pairs of cleats, gloves etc before they head out for summer ball.

I doubt Gene knows anything about this.
