  • The "Who Replaces JT" thread

JT has taken his lumps on Shockernet so let's not turn this into a bash JT thread. The man has spent most of his adult life in a shocker uniform and bleeds yellow and black. He helped tutor numerous All-Americans and was part of some of the very best Shocker Baseball teams we have ever fielded. Lets leave it at that. Does HCTB hire one of his own or keep it in the family?

That would be a good question to be asked by the media at the presser today, so hopefully we'll know where his tendencies lie pretty soon.

Is there anyone in the Shocker family that you'd want as a hitting coach? Standiford is really the only one that would "jump" out there.

    ... No really, deuces.

He had a chance to comment on that on the radio this morning and passed....I suspect he will pass again if asked, even more directly, this afternoon.

Because of his ties to the area and background, my vote would be for Mark.

Hopefully Butler brings in his own guy. This is the beginning of a new era and I'm looking forward to it. I'm pretty sure the Shocker baseball program will begin heading in a better direction under the guidance of Butler.

I would expect Butler to bring one of his guys.

He seems like a smart guy. I think he'll interview quite a few and find the best one for the program whether that be a former Shocker or not.

Butler may not want anyone else on staff that has ties with GS. That may also have been the administration's thinking in not interviewing Hooper.

I would love to see Hoop or Sandiford, but asking a new HC to take one assistant is already a tall order, so I hope he gets whomever he thinks best and has the best chemistry with.

Agreed, and I'm sure he will. Seems to know what he wants and certainly doesn't seem to lack confidence.

Mark does have some history with Butler, there is a chance.

I mentioned about a week ago that I really was warming to Kevin Hooper and thought he would make an excellent head coach at WSU. Deep down I still think he would.

But when you compare the resumes of Hooper and Butler, it's a complete mismatch. It doesn't mean Todd will be better than Hooper would have been. But for those that were critical of the process and what ADES was doing, he made a FANTASTIC decision. Time will judge what happens from here on.

And fwiw, I believe Kevin didn't get much run because he has no college coaching (head or assistant) experience. That's a lot to ask a program to overlook, imho.

I don't think that being a former Shocker will enter into his decision. He'll choose the person who he thinks brings the most to the table recruiting, enthusiasm, a good team fit, contacts, etc., after he holds some interviews.

I think everyone missed the message that Hooper gave last year and the years before, he said he wants to be a Major League manager, not a college head coach. College is not a stepping stone to the Majors, working your way up through the minors is the way it happens. I think Hooper didn't interview because HE didn't want to. MLB is what he says is his goal.
