    Alabama:
hitting instructor and outfielders coach during his first stint with the Crimson Tide
from 1995-2000. He helped guide Alabama to six NCAA Regional appearances as well
as three trips to the College World Series in 1996, 1997 and 1999. The Tide advanced
to the SEC Tournament in all six of those seasons, claiming the SEC Tournament title in
    1995, 1996, 1997 and 1999.

Butler also earned his reputation as one of the country’s top recruiters during
those first six years at Alabama. He helped the Crimson Tide land some of the nation’s
top talent as Alabama recorded three-consecutive top 10 recruiting classes. The Tide’s
1999 freshman class was ranked as the fourth-best in the country and still ranks as the
highest ranked class in school history.

Under Butler’s leadership, the Crimson Tide became one of the most feared
offensive clubs in America. Alabama’s 1997 team led the NCAA in four offensive
categories, including runs scored (679), total hits (860) and total bases (1,571) while
finishing second in home runs (160).
Why did you leave out his 90-83 record a head coach? Thats the position you are pimping him for, correct? I don't mind assistants but not sure what's so special about this guy. Is it really hard to recruit top level baseball talent to the SEC? Cause outside of recruiting top level talent to the top baseball conference I don't see anything to write home about.

      • I heard Chris Allison on KGSO this morning say that he talked directly to the DBU Sports Information director and was told that Heefner would be staying at DBU.

        • Heefner turned it down? Or was never formally offered?

Probably significantly less money at DBU but also less pressure and expectations and still a quality program on the way up. He and family feels comfortable and it's home. Maybe more good reasons.

according to KGSO he was offered. So you can believe them or not, but they seem to be the only media venue who are trying to break any news on this - and so far everything that can be confirmed has been true.

It is amazing the rest of the media in this town are just content to report anything after it is 24 hours old.

It actually makes him look worse that he can recruit top talent. You recruit the best and still are horrible offensively? No thanks!

maybe it all a smoke screen to get to the real candidate - whoever that maybe. But from a credible source of my own indicates WSU was hard after him - though he didn't know if he was offered.

                          • I imagine an offer will be extended very soon if Butler's interview went well.

If it went poorly, everyone needs to get excited for Hooper or Standiford because the non-alum candidates fall off a cliff pretty sharply. Unless someone new has expressed interest in the last day or two.

                              • I assume Kevin Hooper will be back into town today as the Wingnuts finished off their series in Winnipeg with a mid-day game yesterday. Today is an off-day for the Wingnuts.
