I think you guys might have mis-interpreted "promoting" to mean "retaining." We can absolutely regain our stature as a national program with BK staying on as an assistant if we hire the right HC.

He is on Auburn list, so WSU will probably have to wait. He has been around some time and didn't do that well as a head coach at McNeese State (90-83). He quit a head coaching job to go and be an assistant at Alabama. Not sure he is really cut out for the work a WSU would entail.

Wow. I would really like to know if WSU really offered him $400 K a year and if he really turned it down.

It has been my belief all along that Gene should have been allowed to stay as long as he wanted and when he was ready to retire that BK be given first crack at the job. So yes I would like to See BK be named head coach. And Hooper being a Shocker would be a great choice for an assistant coach.

Just a personal observation: I'm taking anything I read on SN with a grain of salt. First, I would find it odd that there would not be several interviews prior to any solid offers being made unless such an offer would be to a grand slam type of hire. Early declinations would be from those who personally inquired and decided the situation was not for them. Money ranges may have been discussed, not offered. What may be said in public by such a coach can have many "reasons" for being said. I would make sure anyone going into the final selection process would be someone who has already indicated that they strongly wanted the job and would have a general understanding of the financials. I would not offer the job to anyone who was not comfortable with the BK situation unless there would be the possibility that there would be no BK.

BK has always publicly said he's not head coach material, that it's not his bag. After his several radio interviews upon staying on with WSU, I would be very disappointed if he was then made the HC. Do you realize how pathetic that would make WSU and BK look? Either no one of any reasonable HC quality would work with BK on the staff or for WSU for potentially top $ salary.

That type of question is no doubt part of DBU's mission statement and perhaps expected from their coaches. According to the article:

Heefner has to recruit players who fall in line with the central ideals the school is founded upon.

That spiritual aspect could also be an important factor why Heefner may want to stay at DBU. As I stated earlier happiness is not always about money and presitge.

I'm still thinking Kevin Hooper may be the favorite. I have no sources, no contacts, no information, no secret decoding ring. Just a gut feeling that this is they way ADES will go. Hoop is the only one with a personal recommendation from Jim Leyland. Of course, how good can Leyland be if he can't even beat the Royals with Verlander on the mound.

Kevin Hooper has many great attributes but perhaps the most attractive in our situation are that 1) he loves Wichita State, 2) he will want to restore and build on Gene's Legacy and not shy away from that and 3) he will allow the healing from the messy divorce with Gene to start immiediately and, hopefully, to proceed quickly.

I have no question about his knowledge of baseball. He has plenty of that. I think he will be a great recruiter and having Brent on board to point him in the right directions will be key. I just really don't have many concerns about Hoop getting this job.

BTW, do not, I repeat, do not take this to the bank. It is my 2 cents worth and thay may overstating its worth.
