From today's Eagle about Cody Forsythe (http://www.kansas.com/2013/05/20/281...torylink=cpy):
"Like several pitchers this season, (Forsythe has) taken advantage of WSU’s thirst for fastballs by disrupting hitters’ timing with changeups and luring them into chasing his curveball. When they get a fastball, it’s rarely in the location they want.
'I think the way they go about hitting sets up well for me,' Forsythe said. 'They like to swing early and they like to swing at fastballs, for sure. I try to spot up and let them get themselves out.'”
Just what the Shocks need -- the return of Charley Boyce. But who knows? Maybe today he'll be off, or maybe they'll hit with their brains as well as their bats. Past struggles don't matter now -- they only have to beat him once. It's probably every bit as critical that Elam bring his A game, because he's capable of giving them a chance against anyone when he does.

Thanks -- I remember seeing something earlier this season to the effect that Manaea hadn't been completely healthy.
Interesting to see what happens tomorrow. I'd think that Manaea, if he's able to go at all, would be out until Thursday (assuming InSt is still playing at that point) -- today would serve as kind of a bullpen toss between starts for him. But if they don't hang on today, will they try to use him tomorrow just so they don't risk going out without his ever pitching?Last edited by WSUwatcher; May 21, 2013, 12:22 PM.

For obvious reasons this 1st round game is huge. Lose it and you have to win 5 in a row. Something the Shocks have not been able to do this year.
One thing most Valley teams have in common is that they all seem to have difficulty scoring runs.
The Shocks may not have the best pitchers in the league but they probably still have the deepest pitching staff.
BTW, here is the link to Championship Central:
