More games are lost, then won. Bob Knight said something like that and I'd have to agree. WSU played more soundly than the Bears.

The first game of the day was a really, really big punch to the gut. Most teams who fell behind that big would just pack it in and come back next game. Not these Bears. They scrapped and were in position to win. And then spit the bit. Heroic effort but futile in the end. Like the Charge of the Light Brigade or something. That's going to be a really tough one to get over. Bad defense, questionable coaching--I mean you have other people who are eligible to pitch Keith.

I have to give credit to your pitchers today for pitching to contact. We didn't strike out much but we didn't hit a lot of balls hard either. I feel sort of like Pedro Martinez in 2004 when the Yankees were owning him. "The Yankees are my daddy." Well maybe Wichita State is mine. Sorta. In the end all of this doesn't mean very much. The Red Sox won the Wild Card, came back from down 3-0 in the ALCS and won the Series. I am hoping the Bears can do something akin to that in Normal which will be the weekend that defines this season because nobody is getting an at large.
So you admit that maybe WU is your daddy! I love it.

And that's why you don't just stand there striking out looking all day....
It looked to me that Micah would have been safe even with a perfect throw. At the time, I thought they might give Micah a hit and then give SWOMO an error on the throw allowing Micah to advance to second. That's not how they ended up scoring it, they just called it a 2 base error.

At any rate, Micah's speed made that play. The SWOMO infielder had to rush the play and ended up throwing wide because of it.

I thought so at the time. I asked the people sitting around me at the time "why doesn't he put his closer in?". I am glad he didn't. Afterall the reliever had only thrown 115 pitches, at SWOMO that is just warming up.

We certainly did. I do want to add that we had two bunts for hits. Dog's in the first game that ended up leading to the winning run and then on Sunday Mucha layed down a perfect bunt to the second baseman that they had absolutely no chance to get him out (they didn't even throw the ball).

The other thing that I would add is that we also played some great defense. The Shox made some fantastic plays.

          • MoSt faces Cu next weekend to most likely decide the 3rd and 4th seeds in the Valley. Both teams are 11-7. If Siu were to sweep Ill. St (very unlikely) then the winner of the MoSt-Cu series could finish as high as second. But the most likely scenerio is that the winner of the series will be the 3rd seed and the loser the 4th seed.
