The Red Sox won the Wild Card, came back from down 3-0 in the ALCS and won the Series. I am hoping the Bears can do something akin to that in Normal which will be the weekend that defines this season because nobody is getting an at large.
Just having fun, Lusking. I rally enjoy your contributions to the board. I like your passion and your at times crazy optimism. I also like you come back to take your lumps on the rare occasions your predictions misfire.Shocker Nation, NYC

Cale Elam seems to be getting more and more comfortable with starting. Hopeully, Garrett Brummentt can keep up the pace he has set once he got his opportunity.
Brandon Peterson has generally been solid in the closer role.
But the big surprise this year and the guy who may as responsible for holding this pitching staff together as any is Aaron Labrie. I can only remember one sub-par outing. Otherwise he has been nails in middle/long relief.
Hopefully, he can keep it up the remainder of the season.

He said that Garrett had thrown 25 more pitches than at any other time this season.
The Most Valuable Player in the 1989 College World Series .
His record-tying three victories led the Shockers to their first national championship .
His complete-game 5-3 victory over Texas in the title contest capped a remarkable senior season in which he posted a nation-leading 18 victories and was named second-team All-American .
That total tied him with Bryan Oelkers for most wins in a season by a Shocker .
He registered 13 straight victories to close his career .
Named the Missouri Valley Conference Pitcher of the Year in 1989 .
Affectionately known as ³Spike² for his bulldog attitude on the mound, he was a mainstay of the WSU pitching staff for four years.
His 43 career victories, 59 starts and 424 innings pitched rank third all-time .
He struck out 364 hitters, second on the career listing .
His four College World Series victories in five starts in 1988 and Œ89 are the most by a Shocker .
Drafted in 1989 by the San Francisco Giants.
Pitched in the major leagues for the Giants and the Minnesota Twins. Inducted, 1995.
He's "way ahead" of his dad? That comment alone should be grounds for immediate removal. Spike was nails in the rotation as a freshman. I love what Garrett has done so far, but sheesh.

I have a feeling that "Fifi" probably didn't pitch all that great his Freshman and Sophomore years. And remember WSU played about 15 games a year in those days against non-division 1 competition. Most of the games that "Fifi" pitched in were probably against non-division 1 competition.
I think Gene was just saying that Garrett already more resembles "Spike" Brummett than "Fifi" Brummett.
