I remember the days when it was just a given WSU was going to win the MVC, now we are left with being picked 2nd "isn't too bad."

I think that 2nd would be good seeing the way they have performed lately.

I was listening to the radio and heard talk about #10 having to have a good season to keep his job. I almost hit my head on the steering wheel. I think a deep run in the CWS should be the only thing to make ADES consider keeping him around longer.

I'm I the only one who is really nervous that ADES may have to actually hire our next baseball coach?

No you are not the only one. I am extremely nervous about it. I would much rather see Gene take us to the CWS this year and put that decision off for a few more years. I know there are many others on this board that disagree with me but I have visions of the Mike Cohen years dancing in my head everytime I think about this decision.

we all fear the unknown, but sometimes you have to decide whether you satisfied playing it safe and bunting the runner over to second with your best hitter at bat when your down by 1 run and playing for a tie, or letting him swing away and letting him have a chance of hitting that walk-off 2 run HR and then seeing a WSU headcoach on this list:

                Not even close.

It could send our baseball program to the proverbial hell.

Those days have been gone for a little while, SB. 2nd place *would* feel good right about now.

We need to accept the fact that we aren't the same anymore and hopefully start building back towards the right direction again. We still have never been a bottom half Valley team. No other flash-in-the-pan Valley school can say that.

Pardon me for taking a 30,000 foot look at your program from a far but Gene built the darn thing. He gets to decide. This isn't even like PSU fans wanting to force JoePa out or Florida State fans trying to do the same for Bobby Bowden, every ounce of pride that you have in the program has generated from Gene. There was nothing before him. Nothing. It's all him. Like it or not, that man should get to decide when he walks away.

Also, who do you realistically think that you can get that would do better? It's a self made program. There is not built in successor. We have the same problem in Springfield with Guttin. Kemnitz and Thomas are too old. There are no internal candidates. That's a problem. Basically it boils down to this: you have had a rough patch since 2009 but you just have to ride it out. We did the same from about 2004 to 2011 or so ourselves. That's just life. If you had nabbed Sunny Galloway in 2005 it would be a different story, but I really don't see anybody out there that is proven that you could insert into Eck Stadium right now that would be appreciably better than Gene. If you get impatient and force the man out then you are truly rolling the dice.

If you aren't getting your job done then you get fired. He has made his decision already by not doing what got him here.

No. He did a marvelous job for many, many years and everyone here is very appreciative. However, the program is Wichita State's, not Gene's, and when the two parties' interests no longer align then our fans have to side with WSU.

Gene is very well compensated and makes more than several other MVC coaches combined. His performance, on the other hand, has been worse than some of those same coaches over the last four seasons. That is unacceptable. Additionally, our program is hemorrhaging revenue and ticket renewals.

Just because you build it does not mean you get to tear it down.

Gene lost any "right" to call when he walks away when he took the OU job and said he had done all he could do here. With that statement, some, maybe many, thought WSU should not have taken him back.

You are absolutely correct. I feel Gene thinks this way though.

Maybe most even. I remember that day very well. I can remember thinking "This is the best day for this program in quite some time." Then the day he came back was just the opposite. I was really upset with Schaus for allowing it.

Just ask all the big boosters, and I bet you aren't even close to being the only one.

It will be interesting to see the season ticket numbers this year versus years past. The telling sign will be how much people are giving towards the program. Money talks and I bet it is yelling at this point.
