I would much rather see Gene take us to the CWS this year and put that decision off for a few more years. I know there are many others on this board that disagree with me but I have visions of the Mike Cohen years dancing in my head everytime I think about this decision.

We need to accept the fact that we aren't the same anymore and hopefully start building back towards the right direction again. We still have never been a bottom half Valley team. No other flash-in-the-pan Valley school can say that.Deuces Valley.

Pardon me for taking a 30,000 foot look at your program from a far but Gene built the darn thing. He gets to decide. This isn't even like PSU fans wanting to force JoePa out or Florida State fans trying to do the same for Bobby Bowden, every ounce of pride that you have in the program has generated from Gene. There was nothing before him. Nothing. It's all him. Like it or not, that man should get to decide when he walks away.
Also, who do you realistically think that you can get that would do better? It's a self made program. There is not built in successor. We have the same problem in Springfield with Guttin. Kemnitz and Thomas are too old. There are no internal candidates. That's a problem. Basically it boils down to this: you have had a rough patch since 2009 but you just have to ride it out. We did the same from about 2004 to 2011 or so ourselves. That's just life. If you had nabbed Sunny Galloway in 2005 it would be a different story, but I really don't see anybody out there that is proven that you could insert into Eck Stadium right now that would be appreciably better than Gene. If you get impatient and force the man out then you are truly rolling the dice.

Gene is very well compensated and makes more than several other MVC coaches combined. His performance, on the other hand, has been worse than some of those same coaches over the last four seasons. That is unacceptable. Additionally, our program is hemorrhaging revenue and ticket renewals.
Just because you build it does not mean you get to tear it down.

It will be interesting to see the season ticket numbers this year versus years past. The telling sign will be how much people are giving towards the program. Money talks and I bet it is yelling at this point.
