Alex Birge with by far his best game at the plate since a 2-5, 3 runs, 3 rbi performance against Little Rock in game 2 of the season. Need those kind of games to come more than once every 2 months. In that game and today's game Alex was 4-7 plus 2 walks with 6 runs scored and 6 rbi, and only 1 strikeout.

In the intervening 14 games in which he appeared he was a combined 3-33 with 2 runs scored and 1 rbi and 14 strikeouts. He probably is as good as his 2 good games but he certainly can be, should be, and I think is better than the intervening 14 games.

Did you guys see how many runs we scored after we stopped bunting?

M Might've been 20 if we didn't insist on getting 2 strikes with failed bunts another 5 times.

I would love to know how many failed bunt attempts we had today. It might be an NCAA record for one game.

There was nothing pretty or special about today's game EXCEPT the fight in our guys. They had ample opportunity to quit after falling behind when things just weren't going their way, but the finally found a way even if FAU helped them out (and in fairness, we helped out FAU bigly).

The joke of the Quad system is shown again today as that win matters just as much as beating Utah Tech.

Man we missed a lot of bunts. Perhaps it was the wind?

          I like our freshmen.

          Our guys needed that today.

Not sure if anyone noticed but HCBG was at 3rd to mix things up even more.

We're a long, long ways from being "fixed" but this game helped. I think tomorrow is huge, not so much for wins and losses but for our psyche.

Very crazy. For a number of reasons. We won in spite of the bunting attempts. It does look to me like a couple guys (see Birge/Durnin) maybe see the ball better and actually make contact on the fake bunt/short swing to hit. Maybe someone should take something away from that and change the swing.

Can't say that I noticed. Was he there all game? Cuz whomever gave the giant, emphatic stop sign to DWill at 2nd base whilst the ball was still being fumbled in the RF-corner and then gave a giant emphatic slide sign as the ball got to the first cutoff man......should not have that as their day job.

If we're just gonna go full Creighton and try to get HBP and bunt and try to win 3-2, then we'd better get a lot more committed to it. Right now it looks a lot like throwing crap at the wall. Even I was a potential HR-hitter on a day like today. Giving away early-inning outs in a game that was clearly a race to double-digits is beyond the pale.

And I say all this as someone who is undoubtedly the most pro-bunt person you've ever met in your life.

Anyway, a lot of complainy-complainy when in fact I had a fun day at the ballpark. Autograph line was fun, as usual. Hope they can add another series win tomorrow.

I'm right there with you there on the bunting. I LOVE the bunt. Sometimes though I don't get what we're doing.

I do like the fight in these guys. But losing 7 of 8 takes the sting out of any positive mojo you have going in the dugout.

Maybe a series win will change that because we'll need everything we can put together to even be competitive at ECU next weekend. And I suspect the Pirates will still be seething from the ass beating we handed them last season when we swept them out of the Eck with a combined 23-3 score (including 2 shutouts).

It was a fun day at the park although that wind got old. Not having to wear a heavy coat was nice for a change. I hope the guys return to playing sharp today. Clean, sharp, aggressive baseball.

And yeah, HCBG was at 3rd all game.

It was like FAU completely forgot or threw out the scout. Right back to pitching us(imho opinion, needlessly) inside, which led to balls, 6 walks and 5 HBPs. Add to that an error and a non called error on a misplayed pop fly (to be fair, the conditions absolutely contributed to that) and they helped WSU to score most of their runs. We helped them too, but with only 3 walks and no HBPs, it was a lot less help.

After 30 pitches (and 10 more Friday) I would be very surprised to see Trehey again. But FAU has one of the 3 best staffs in conference so it's not as big a deal as it is getting into UAB's or USF's bullpen, for example.

That’s what happens when a coach’s trip to the mound is to chat & reset the pitcher rather than heading out there with the hook. Good work Dobbs!
