We’re a freshmen/inexperienced pitching meltdown late vs UVA and to start vs Auburn (took us out of the game before it even started) from 3-0

          • I was critical of the Green hire but he did everything right the first month he was here.

              Here’s a really solid post-game interview…

Not sure I'd agree he did everything right.............but no doubt he's done a lot right and he kept the freshman class together (all but one) and that was key. And I do think he recruited awfully well considering the circumstances.

His pressers are really good, and at least the first coaches show was very solid and informative. Looking forward to hearing more of them as the season progresses.

Yeah, it's a little odd, but Brodie was fantastic vs Auburn. He kept those monsters at bay, allowing only 2 hits, 2 runs (only one of which was earned) over 6 full. He struck out 11 (we struck out like 2 in the entire game vs Auburn) and he sat 97-102 on his FB all night. He's a sure fire 1st rounder this summer. He really was the best pitcher, just didn't have the best result. Caden Favors might have been the 2nd best pitcher.

You are right about the first part and I apologize for not qualifying it by stating I was referring to bringing Gene aboard, hiring Overcash, keeping many recruits around and being active on social media.

Speaking of the one we lost, Tyner Horn has appeared in 2 games for Nebraska, 4.2 innings of 3 hit pitching, no earned runs. No doubt we'll see him, his friends and family (Goddard) and a whole bunch of Nebraska fans when they come to Wichita for 2 midweek games in a couple of weeks.

                              • Wanted to review what happened in the 7th yesterday. In the 6th, the Shocks cut the Hawkeye lead to 5-3 on a pinch hit home run by Josh Livingston with 2 outs.

After a shutdown bottom of the 6th, the Shocks come up in the 7th trailing by 2.

After a sharp groundout from Mo (really nice play from the Hawkeye SS) Callahan got hit 3-1. Derek Williams sprays one down the left field line. Rounding 2nd, Callahan bumps into the shortstop and the Umpire IMMEDIATELY signals obstruction. 3B Coach Clay Overcash is locked into it and while at first putting up the stop sign for Ryan (the ball is almost back in the infield) when he sees the call he sends Callahan home who nearly scores (he was out). Derek hustles over to 3rd. Blue gets together and confirms the obstruction and the run scores. Iowa wastes a challenge on Williams missing first (not sure what they thought they saw because Williams was all over the bag). With 1 out and a 5-4 lead, Iowa brings in the infield and Gus bounces one over the 2nd baseman to tie the game. Would have loved to be near our dugout then because our guys were fired up.

Then Rogers draws a walk after being down 0-2 and Stroh comes up and hits a 3 run bomb that basically decides the game (after another pitching change) 8-5.

Loved the way the guys worked the counts, battled at the plate and waited to drive the ball when someone finally made a mistake. That approach will pay dividends all season if they can keep it up.
