Congrats to Brock. Thought he was taking a little bit of chance not signing last year but he has made it pay off. #160 has a slot value of $374,400.

Really enjoyed watching Brock as a Shocker.

In two seasons as a Shocker, Rodden compiled a .355 batting average, 31 doubles, four triples, 34 home runs and 112 RBI.

Hope he has great success as a pro.

Signed with KU but will probably be offered a decent bonus.

I heard a scout this morning say Why. He said that it’s easier or more accurate to evaluate and project success with college players because they’ve competed against better players. High school players often have higher ceilings, but sometimes it might take longer for them (perhaps until 26 or 27 years old) to mature and show they’re ready for the investment to pay off and be ready to play in the M.L. Also, really high ceiling High School players can command higher pay because they an go to college and play. Older, college players have less leverage, and each team has the same cap of money to spend on the draft, or they have penalties.

Somebody needs to inform the Padres no good for nothin dipstick of a GM that. Always drafting "projectable" athletic high school kids that may or may not ever pan out.

Looks like Washington State has only had 1 player drafted so far, a guy in the 8th round.

Waiting to see if anyone else from Wichita State goes today.

Anyone drafted today is usually signing for 150k or less. No elite HS kid is going for that so its mostly college and juco

That's a wrap for the 2023 draft. No incoming recruits selected. Rodden was the only Shocker selected.
