  • STONE COLD REALITY CHECK

Traveling on business in California. A ton of youth baseball players in the parking lot. Later in in the evening 3 respectful teen boys ride the elevator up. I'm wearing WSU pullover.

Me: you here for baseball tournament?
    Them: yes sir
Me: point to wushock logo and ask would you like to play for Wichita State?
Them: is that D2 or juco?
Me: no. They won D1 national championship in 1989.
    Them: oH wow!

    Might have been WW2

Their dads may have been little kids the last time WSU was nationally relevant in baseball. Best thing for this program would have been to let Gene stay in Norman.

15 years since the last regional win and 10 since the last appearance is a long time and I can’t imagine that drought is ending this year.

27 since the last CWS appearance. People have been in high school, gone to WSU, met at the Field House, conceived, and raised WSU graduates in that time.

            Not so sure.

There's reason to believe we could have a surprisingly good season this year. We'll know soon enough.

                True.

But for all of his faults, Wedge recruited well. Pelfrey is no longer coaching under an incompetent coach (Butler) or neurotic situation (Wedge). Scooter is old enough and wise enough to delegate and the pitchers like Pelfrey. They'll be better this year.

                And we can bat.

So there's reason to believe we can do better than most expect this season.

There are reasons to believe we won't go backwards with Wedge's departure.

There are reasons to hope can can do better than expected. However, there are not necessarily many reasons based on actual performance that you can hang your hat on to believe we will do better than expected. I think more time is needed for that.

The Shocks were pretty competitive against Long Beach State but blew game 2 with supposedly one of their top pitchers the culprit. Not sure what you take away from the Utah Tech series especially the 4-12 blowout loss in game 1.

I don't think Oakland is going to provide much to go on this weekend.

I will defer whether or not there are reasons for me to believe the Shocks are on their way until AAC play gets here at the end of March.

Yup it's too early to tell. But we have a stable coaching staff now, some skilled upperclassmen, strong team chemistry, we can bat, and maybe we can finally pitch a little too? Let's see if they can put it all together.

It's about time, cause I'm running out of time. Nothing wrong with a little optimism every now and then...

Yep, reasons for hope, but to believe takes a bit more evidence for me.

Too bad they can't play up to their recruited potential.

What I have heard is Pelfrey may also be part of the problem

See above... I heard he is doing the exact opposite.

I disagree. 6-4 against RPI 226 competition. Gonna have to do much better than that.

                              RPI is meaningless right now.

Let me ask this ... what RPI do you think we will finish with this season with?
