I think best scenario is the coaching staff decides they need better pastures before they are put out to pasture.

And forfeit the next two years' worth of bloated, above-market salaries? Fat chance.

Gene dying of a heart attack is more likely than him giving up that kind of income after the fleecing he absorbed from Mr. Wild West World. Not that I am rooting for that. Just sayin'.

If they're not of that quality, it's the coaches that recruited them (or didn't work hard enough to recruit better). If the off field problems with players stem from a lack of good character, it's the coaches that recruited them. If it's not a question of character, then the coaches are losing their control off and on the field. I can not, and will not, cast aspersions on the young men as I do not know them, their background, or their abilities. What I do know is what "was" with the quality/ability of play and what player character I saw versus what I see today. As I said, I lay that at the feet of what has been consistant throughout all that time, the coaching staff.
This is very well-stated. I have always been completely and totally mystified at the heated opposition statements like this have incurred in the past.

The buck stops at the top. Not coincidentally, those at the top are the only ones getting the bucks in college athletics.

Fleeced twice by two different people. Odds of that?

I have been a Gene supporter and still am. I still believe Gene and company know baseball and haven't all of a sudden lost their baseball IQ. The one thing I can't ascertain is the effort Gene and company are putting forth into bringing the best talent into the program and then making these kids top tier performers. That is the unknown.

However, the baseball program is bigger than any one man. Even if that man is responsible for elevating the program to its current level. This program has been declining for the past 4 years and the longer we wait, the bigger the hole we have to dig ourselves out of.

Either Gene and co. need to reinvigorate themselves or we need to accept that times have changed in college baseball that impacts the way we recruit and compete and just dream about the good ol' days.

If TC broke "team rules", then the situation is "owned" by TC. The fact that the suspension was announced by ADES may or may not indicate a violation to the student athlete code of conduct. If precedent regarding the identification of Brian Flynn's academic situation is correct, TC's problem is not academics or it likely would have been announced. If the coaching staff has turned a blind eye to infractions and ADES has had to act in the best interests of the university, then there are likely others to blame as well.

I have a reasonable idea of what I "suspect" the issue to be and hope it is resolved in the best interest of WSU Baseball. Since I have no "hard facts', I will refrain from further speculation in fairness to all involved. I hope this is yet another wake up call to TC and the rest of the team that rules are rules, and are to be adhered to. I hope TC figures it out soon and makes whatever changes are necessary to continue in the program. TC has always been a gritty hard-nosed player who plays with every ounce of energy he can give...on the field!

I don't think the coaches should be held responsible for what the players do on there own time. These players are adults and should act like it. When they don't they should have to pay the concequences. {no matter who it is} Duck hunt trip, the Walker issue and now TC, resulted in them making very bad decisions, not the coaches. By these guys making bad choices everyone shouldn't assume the whole team is bad. I don't know if I agree with the punishments so far. Personally think some of them should have been tuffer. I also think they should give more of a reason for the TC thing but maybe they don't want to draw attention to other players that could be involved. Who knows.

Players come to WSU expecting to go on to the next level. When the coaching does not meet their expectations and there is little to no improvement, they just flat out don't care anymore. Its not right but it happens, they have lost respect for the coaching staff. WSU has decent players (not the quality they have had in the past) and great facilities, but very poor fundamentals and baseball I.Q. That is coaching. They have done great things for this university, and thats how they need to be remembered, but they need to go relax and enjoy retirement.

Most of the time the refusal to elaborate has more to do with legal issues and privacy acts. Just like in business you can't release alot of information about former and current employees.
