Alcorn State did win the SWAC last year and they are picked to win it again this year so their final record should be a lot better than it is right now.

So you're saying their RPI has a chance to be 225 instead of 250?

      Stop the sugarcoating please.

Purdue update: In spite of playing in the big 10, Purdue has managed to stay in the top 10 of the rpi. Boyds World has Purdue's current rpi at #7.

They still have not only have a chance of hosting a regional but of being a national seed. Boyd's rpi needs assessment says Purdue has to go 2-13 to finish in the top 45, 11-3 to finish in the top 16 (to have a good chance of hosting a regional) or 14-1 to finish in the top 8 (national seed territory). Since Purdue has only lost 6 games all year (2 of them to WSU), their chances of going 11-3 or better to end up as a regional host look awfully good.

They played like crap those two games and we overachieved. Big deal. Moral victories such as these and having to hang our hat on a couple of good wins is a testament of how low this program has dropped. Oh well, I see good things on the horizon however.

I posted this update because myself (and many others) didn't believe Purdue would be able to hold their good rpi all season long. They came into Wichita with a top 15 rpi and surprisingly they have actually improved it. That is a very hard thing to do when you play in the big 10. There are lot of rpi killers in that conference.

Purdue has indeed had one hell of a season. They almost single handedly boost our SoS from 90-100 territory up to where it sits now.

I believe that the last time ANY Big 10 team made the College World Series was 1984. It looks like Purdue has a very good chance of breaking that nearly 30 year drought.

Michigan in 1984 was the last big 10 team to make it to the College World Series.

Michigan almost made it in 1989, making it to the regional final undefeated.

Alas, they lost two in a row to Wichita State.

Didn't that Michigan team have Barry Larkin and Jim Abbot?

Pretty sure Michigan also won a regional at Vanderbilt, then lost a super (@ FSU?). Ohio State also won a regional in 2003. And I think Penn State won one too in the first year of the new format, then got sent to Texas for the super and lost.

Remember how Maine used to be in the CWS seemingly every other year? Talk about a program that completely disappeared once regionals stopped being as strictly distributed by geography.

Those 4 games against Purdue have helped our SOS a lot. According to warren nolan the current SOS for WSU sits at 53, which is kind of eery because that is the exact same SOS that warren nolan said the WSU basketball team finished with this year.

Purdue continues to roll. They have won the first two games of a 3 game big 10 series with #57 Michigan State this weekend. Warren nolan shows their current rpi at #8.

The last big 10 team to actually win the CWS was Ohio State in 1966. They were also the last northern team to win the CWS until WSU did it in 1989.

And Oregon State is the only northern school to win it since WSU did it in 1989 (and some people don't really consider the northwest northern since they have milder winters similar to many southern areas).
