The leading candidate for that might be Kevin Hall who looked very good and very much improved during the FWS.“The rebellion on the populist right against the results of the 2020 election was partly a cynical, knowing effort by political operators and their hype men in the media to steal an election or at least get rich trying. That's the upside with Kevin. He is a walking double. So the main thing for him is to just get on base as often as and in any way he can.
We also really need to find someone who can hit behind Johnny Coy and not allow the opposition to simply pitch around him. Casey Gillaspie might fill that bill. He certainly looks like he has the physical tools to develop into an outstanding hitter.Last edited by 1972Shocker; January 17, 2012, 06:24 PM.

Hoping for the best with this team. As for the whole punishment deal.. 72, I am in agreement with you. Until we know if alcohol was involved, and who supplied it, we can't judge. If it is determined that Mateychick supplied the alcohol, there should be punishment. At the very least a suspension. I don't buy in to all these fans that want to win at all costs and let a MAJOR mistake like this go. These are young men, they make mistakes, yes, but should be held accountable for their actions. Even if we were to lose every game that they were suspended (if it comes to that) then so be it. The important thing is making sure they learned their lessons.

I think Casey will fill that bill. He reminded me a lot of Pat Magness during fall ball.

My projected lineup ot produce runs-
Kevin Hall- CF- Has to cut down on strikeouts and put the ball in play. Gene needs to give him the green light on the basepaths.
Josh Halbert- SS- Contact hitter and a good bunter. Hit well in the fall. Solid defensively.
Tyler Coughenour- 2B- Best bunter on the team, has some power, and can steal bases. Hit better pitches in the fall. Need him at .325+.
Johnny Coy- 1B- Has to lay off the slider in the dirt. When he hits it, he hits it hard. Long fly balls will be RBIs if we can get guys on base.
Casey Gillespie- DH- Power from both sides. Will have to hit the offspeed 'cause he won't see many fastballs as we get into the year.
Dayne Parker- 3B- Makes good contact and has power. He should jump 50 points after a decent freshman year.
Don Lambert- RF- Needs to be more aggressive at the plate. Has some power and a lot of speed.
Tyler Baker- C- He'll struggle some at the plate, but has shown power and speed from the left side. Defensively- has the best arm but needs some work receiving. Kemnitz can call pitches until he figures out how to call a game.
Micah Green- LF- Won't roadblock Kevin if he gets on base. Needs to put the ball in play and cut down on strikeouts.
I know many will question my choices at SS and C. I love Walker to death- just think we'll be better off with Halbert and more consistency at the plate. Arens is definitely the best receiver on the team, but he hasn't shown me he can get it done at the plate. If he does, he's a roadblock for the running game I expect to see out of this years team.
I know that I've opened a can of worms, but I welcome any and all opinions...

I think the wild cards will be how well Garrett Bayliff and Eric Harbutz come back from their injuries. Harbutz could be in the mix at 3rd base and Bayliff was off to a great start last year in LF when his injury occurred.
Will see what happens at SS and C. Unfortunately, no one is standing out for those positions at this point. My guess is Walker has the inside track at short, but he will need to hit better than he has in the past to hold that position.
Catcher is a real grab bag full of question marks.
I anticipate quite a bit of platooning during the season unless someone takes the bull by the horns and just gets too hot to sit.Last edited by 1972Shocker; January 19, 2012, 04:54 PM.

It is now official that Zach Beringer will not be pitching this year for the Shockers due to the injuries he suffered in the Okahoma auto accident. Based on the description of Zach's injuries at the time of the accident this is not surprising at all. Whether he will be able to pitch again in the future is still up in the air. Hope we see him back on the mound for the Shocks, but in any case I wish the best for Zach. This is a significant blow to our pitching staff.
Tobin Mateychick will not pitch this year either but that is attributable to his Tommy John surgery back in April.Last edited by 1972Shocker; January 26, 2012, 02:48 PM.
