Haase seemed strong still, why sub him?

You have different guys for different roles. You also have 2 more games in the series to think about.

Unusual delivery indeed. Looks more like how a catcher cocks and throws the ball that normally what you see out of a pither. But sometimes the guys with weird deliveries can be tough to hit.

              • LaTech leaves 14 runners on base. That is doing it the hard way but the Shocks got it done. Good win for the good guys.

                    • “The rebellion on the populist right against the results of the 2020 election was partly a cynical, knowing effort by political operators and their hype men in the media to steal an election or at least get rich trying. But it was also the tragic consequence of the informational malnourishment so badly afflicting the nation. ... Americans gorge themselves daily on empty informational calories, indulging their sugar fixes of self-affirming half-truths and even outright lies.'

Perhaps. A long way to go. With the league the Shocks play in now the proof is in the AAC. That said LaTech looks to be pretty legit and according to Shane Dennis they are an older team so they are a really good challenge for this Shocker team. Would love to see the Shocks take 2 of 3 in this series.

100% agree. Some very positive signs today. I felt like we had to get 1 win just to demonstrate we can compete with solid squads. A series wins makes you think the Shox have a chance in a lot of the series remaining on the schedule. Obviously wouldn't guarantee anything, but if you start looking at all but say 2 remaining series and think "we could win that series," that would feel like a very positive position for this squad to be in. Series isn't over yet, but they've now got 2 shots to win this thing.

I thought the defense was a plus today. I feel like that has very rarely been the case for a very long time now.

The pitching created a few too many messes today in ways reminiscent of the previous era, but to their credit they were also really clutch in pitching their way out of those messes, primarily with strikeouts. Especially when pitching with a lead and when your defense has demonstrated some good play behind you, I'd prefer to see them keep it over the plate and force the other team to hit 4 homers instead of walking 3 and then hoping they don't get one in the wind.

The offense was by no means world-beating. They just aren't going to be this season, IMO. But they did a pretty good job of taking advantage of opportunities. 6 runs should have you in most games.

Pitch, play defense, and execute. Occasionally get a big bonus dinger or big inning. So far, they are doing a great job with the script Wedge gave them, and kudos to the players for that.

Confidence can be a funny thing.

                            • Great win to start off the weekend. 10 in a row is 10 in a row and is pretty hard to do in baseball, even against a weak schedule. I'm not ready to get giddy yet because we're still only 6 days into March and we haven't played murderer's row. Our relief pitching is still really shaky. We got pretty lucky today that we didn't get burned by it but if that happens routinely we'll get burned routinely. Offense was adequate. Cornblum seems legit. Defense was pretty salty. Starting pitching is also strong. The team's biggest bugaboo will be relief pitching and an inconsistent, lower-tier offense.

But Wedge has already done more in 5 weeks with this team than the previous head coach did in 5 years.

                              ... No really, deuces.

                              • I've learned my lesson from putting too much stock into a hot start. Our basketball boys were once 15-1 this year and we know how that's going. I'm so happy with the direction of the program right now, but I'll remain cautiously optimistic. A 30 win season is what I'm shooting for in my hopes and dreams this year.
