Baseball: Wichita State vs Hofstra - Feb 28,29/Mar 1

I like the contributions the freshman are making. We have some talented kids in this class.

I wasn't able to follow today's game so basically just perusing the box score. Obviously, 19 runs on 20 hits certainly seems like a step in the right direction. That was helped along by 7 walks, 2 hit batters and 3 wild pitches by Hofstra. Really hard to say how much of the outburst is due to good approach and focus by Shocker hitters and how much was due to weak Hofstra pitching. I suppose, if nothing else, that considering the way the Shockers have struggled to score that perhaps this will serve as a confidence builder if nothing else.

OTOH, the pitching took a step backwards today. Baseball is really strange in that way. The Shocks may be back to a low scoring pitching duel tomorrow.

Not sure you can read too much into this game but the winning streak continues and I'll take it. Maybe the hitters from both teams just enjoyed playing a game in decent baseball weather.

Anybody figure on Hofstra beating Nevada 2-1 this evening? After getting their pitching pummeled this afternoon, Hofstra pitching gave up 1 run on 1 hit and 4 errors.

Baseball is so weird. Sometimes you just gotta remember that the point is to win games and it's ok to be happy about doing that.

Hofstra winning not really a surprise. I'm surprised at a 2-1 game in general, but especially after Hofstra both got their bats going today and burned through the top end of an already fairly weak pitching staff.

Ahh, that makes sense. It does seem like Hofstra has been batting very well, but pitching poorly. Maybe Nevada is the opposite with awful batting but fairly decent pitching?

Northwestern State, the Shockers first opponents, moved to 8-1 beating a better than you think Eastern Illinois team 3-0. The Demons RPI is 15 (missing the winky smiley thing for Fev)

Texas Southern beat A-PB 13-7.

Kstate took 2 from FDU 12-1 & 8-1.

ShockerFever and I may disagree a lot about how to enjoy WSU athletics, but at least I know I'm discussing with a die-hard Shocker fan that wants nothing more than for WSU to win every game they ever play and cram it up the cram-hole of literally every other school.
