  • Beringer and Mateychick in car wreck

Beringer will require surgery to repair multiple vertebrae in his back.

Alcohol was involved in the accident. The accident itself was bad news, knowing alcohol was involved is just horrific. Thank goodness they survived and the driver did not injure anybody else. Here's hoping for a quick and healthy recovery.

Can we pretty much count Beringer and Mateychick out for the year?

That is horrible and extremely poor judgement on their parts. Prayers for both of them.

From the way the article describes the accident, it sounds like they are lucky to be alive. Hopefully they both will end up fine.

Very unfortunate indeed. Sounds like Mateychick will be fine. OTOH, Beringer's injuries sound very serious indeed. Very well could be career ending injuries. I guess we will have to wait and see. Best wishes to Zach.

Not sure how the use of alcohol will impact the young men involved which could include McGreevey and Gillaspie also. Gene and Brent will have to sort those details out and take appropriate action. Hopefully, a strong message will be sent although Zach's injuries in and themselves have no doubt sent a pretty sobering message.

              :(

Here's the story from Paul Suellentrop. Neither were wearing seat belts.

Let's see, the use of alcohol, guns, high rate of speed on a gravel/dirt road, no seat belts quite a combination for disaster if I have ever heard of one.

Maybe we should call them dumb and dumber.

And im sure your so perfect to have the athority to decide this. Of course they are the ONLY college students to have possibly made a poor decision of consuming alchohol and getting in a vehicle. The truth is these things happen every day and go un reported. Zach and Tobin however get flack because the boys are college athletes. No guns were involved, they were on a hunting trip, the guns were not loaded. And there hasnt been any investigation as to how "high of a rate of speed" these boys were traveling at. Please keep the families in mind when posting these ignorant comments, these times must be hard enough as it is as we can all only imagine. Thoughts and prayer to the boys and their families, as well as the WSU baseball family.

Well it was a pretty dumb and poor decision. Can't excuse it just because "these things happen every day".

Yes it was, no one is saying that it wasn't, however that doesn't make it okay to be disrespectful to the boys and their families by taking their personal business public. I'm not excusing it because it happens every day, I'm saying that at a time like this the last thing the boys and their families need is people criticising them.

11PM when it happened on their way to get gas?

"According to the report, a 1997 Blue Toyota four-wheel drive driven by Beringer traveled at a high rate of speed on a gravel road in Kay County in northern Oklahoma. Beringer lost control and ran off the road. The car rolled three-and-a- quarter times before coming to rest on the driver's side. Beringer was ejected 27 feet, according to the report. The accident threw Mateychick 43 feet."

Hunting ducks and gas at 11:00PM?

"No guns were involved, they were on a hunting trip, the guns were not loaded", oh there were no guns involved and the guns that were not involved were not loaded. That is good to know.

With the back injuries to Beringer, broken the c7, t3, t4, t5, t6, t7, and t8 vertabrae and he will have surgery to insert rods into his spine, I would doubt that he ever pitches again.

So not to offend their families I will just call them stupid they are lucky that they are not darwin award winners.

You have got to be kidding me!!! WSU_Dad has oftentimes called a few of the posters "idiots". JJClamdip... you have certainly risen to the top of that list with your insensitive and moronic comments. Poor judgement? But, of course. Dumb and dumber? Stupid? Wow. Just wow. I hope that you never experience karma to the nth degree and have such an accident within your own family. Try thinking before you type. Try...
