In the bottom of the 8th walks put Shocker runner on 1st and 2nd with 2 outs. Back-to-back singles by Hunter Gibson and Jacob Kartzfey score 2 runs and the Shocks take a 3-1 lead.

McGinness made that stand up and finishes off a terrific complete game, 5-hit shut out. Heckuva of a job by Clayton.

USF takes game 2 of the UConn doubleheader. So the Shocks lead USF by a half-game pending the outcome of tomorrow's game 3 with ECU.

Funny you say that. The rumor I've heard is that ADDB expects this recruiting class to be top 5 in the nation and will give Butler next season to see what he can do with it. No joke.

If that BS has one ounce of truth in it, I’ll never attend another WSU sporting event while Boatright is athletic director.

You and me both Fever, I might even go so far as to send Boatright a nasty email

Shox trailing ECU 4-2 in the T7. ECU executes a squeeze play to score one to make it 5-2. WSU then makes 2 errors on a double steal to allow 2 more to score. ECU 7-2 T7, pitching change now happening.

The squeeze play was preceded by a steal of 3rd base. ECU using small ball to open up their lead.

Same-ol'-same-ol'. Execution, execution, execution. ECU had only 5 hits, but scored 7 runs thanks to 9 walks and a couple of errors. WSU had 13 hits, left 14 runners on base, and scored 3 runs.

The "So You're Tellin' Me There's a Chance" stat of the day ...

It's mathematically possible for Wichita State to finish tied for 5th and get the 6th seed in the AAC.

        They would need:
        • a sweep of USF
        • an ECU home sweep of Memphis
        • a Houston road sweep of UCF
That would lock up the 6 seed. Add in a Tulane sweep of UCONN and they would tie for 5th.

        Sweet dreams!

Actually none of that is totally out of the realm of possibility.

With all the money the 40 former players put into Phase V (presumably most were GS’s players), it will be a real insult to retain Butler. Never has someone done so little with so much. Time for him to go.

There’s a thousand reasons it makes zero sense to retain Butler for 1 more year. Butler has already cost the university way more than it would be to buy him out already. Should’ve been done 2 years ago. There’s irreparable damage going on here. But again, the athletic director doesn’t seem to give a **** about the program anymore.

Fever - You are being way too hard on HCTB and ADDB! We are in last place in the AAC and must win 2 out of 3 on the road this weekend to even make the AAC tournament. We have an overall record of 16-29 in two years in the AAC. Keep in mind the AAC is ranked just in front of the MVC so we would likely be in 6th or 7th place in the MVC this year.

That said, in HCTB's 6 years he has finished 4th, 4th, 6th, 5th, 7th, and then however we finish this year. Currently he has an overall record of 164-177 and unless we have an end of year miracle, he will have had only 2 winning seasons in his 6 years (his first year with mostly fHCGS' players, and last year with 11 players drafted). Why wouldn't you bring him back next year? We have been hearing for the past 5 years how good we are going to be next year, why not try it one last time to see if it can eventually come true. SMDH!

And in case you think our woes are only due to pitching, let me remind you that we are losing our top three hitters after this season (due to graduation). If you subtract their numbers, the rest of the team is hitting .251. Those three also have 41% of our extra base hits, including 46% of the teams HRs.

An ECU sweep of Memphis at home seems pretty likely.

The Shocker and Houston both getting sweeps on the road seems like a bit of a long shot.

It certainly won't be easy for Tulane to sweep UConn at home either.

Looking at the other side of the coin, if the Shocks get swept they are obviously left out of the tournament although surely they can avoid that against USF.

If the Shocks go 1-2 against USF they would also be on the outside looking in even if all you above scenarios play out.

Bottom line is if the Shocks don't win this series with USF they are done for the year. If they win the series they keep playing.

McGinness Named Pitcher of the Week

Wichita State University pitcher Clayton McGinness has been named the American Athletic Conference's Pitcher of the Week for his performance on the mound during the week of May 6-12, it was announced Monday, May 13.

A 6-foot-1 senior right-hander from Amazonia, Mo., McGinness becomes WSU's inaugural Pitcher of the Week in The American after firing his first-career complete game in the Shockers' 3-1 victory over No. 8 ECU on Senior Day, Saturday, May 11, at Eck Stadium, Home of Tyler Field.

McGinness went the distance on the mound, throwing all nine innings and allowing just one earned run on five hits with only one walk and four strikeouts on 103 pitches to lead Wichita State to its first win over a top-10 opponent since 2014.

He also helped turn two key 1-6-3 double plays and did not allow an extra-base hit in the contest.

That's the way to go out on Senior Day and not a bad Mother's Day present for his mom as well. Well done Clayton.

                    Gotta root for USF.

Would really like to see the Boatramp justify keeping Butler after missing out on an 8-team conference tournament in a 9-team league.

Is there anyone here other than Boatright who thinks Butler SHOULD get another year. Not the merits of if he will be retained another year, just do you think he SHOULD be here?

Absolute circus crap that he's still here. Before the season started his winning percentage was .485 at WSU. This year currently with 3 games to go the record is .451 on the season. Wins and Losses, the team is REGRESSING, and I wouldn't say the execution is regressing as it is just stagnating, a festering, petrified turd of the beautiful game we call baseball.

Can't wait for the new minor league team to come to town so I can go watch baseball in person again.

I absolutely believe Butler deserves another year....coaching a T-Ball team. Actually, even that would be an insult to the Teeballers. They could do so much better

One other scenario is a Houston sweep of UCF with WSU taking 2 of 3 from USF. UCF is the only AAC team that WSU owns the tiebreaker over, so we would finish as the 7th seed in that case. Anywhere but 8th is a really good tournament seed this year, as the current No. 2 team, Tulane, is only .550 in the league.

Crazy parity this year, with every team but Memphis (#129) in the Top 105 of the RPI. Our conference RPI is #5 with a sizable gap between us and #6 (MVC). In its 6 years of existence, the AAC has never been lower than #6 in conference RPI.

Yep, but I wasn't really trying to point out all of the possible seeding scenarios but you have a good point that the 8 seed, especially this year, is not a good place to be. The main point I was trying to make is that WSU needs to win this series or they are done. Same applies to USF. So this weekend's series is a de facto play-in series as far as the AAC Tournament goes.
