After the Tech pitching change Mason O'Brien hit the ball on the nose but right at the left fielder for out #2. Brady Slavens double off the center field wall, Ross Cadena walked, Slavens advanced to 3rd on a wild pitch and then Jake Plastiak walked to load the bases. Jack Sigrist singled to center scoring Slavens. An error by the Tech SS allowed 2 more runs to score. After another Tech pitching change Hunter Gibson drove in the 6th run of the inning with VanVooren who had reached 1st on the Tech error thrown out at 3rd to end the inning.

After the dust clears the Shocks now lead 10-9 heading into the bottom of the 5th. Shocks swinging the bats well.

Cal Carver continues on the mound and has pitched well.

Well this game was probably already a slugfest but Tech adds a 3-run home in the bottom of the 5th to retake the lead 12-10. An infield single, a hit batter and a no-doubter high and deep over the left field wall.

That pretty much officially makes it a slugfest. However, as I said above this game is far from over. May come down to a last inning field goal.

This game has more than a touch of Keystone Cops to it.

Shocks on the warpath again in the top of the 6th. After Luke Ritter, of all people, ground out to 3rd to open the inning, Back-to-back singles to left by Paxton Wallace and Mason O/Brien followed by another Tech wild ptich put runners in scoring position with Brady Slavens at bat. Brady walks to load the bases and Ross Cadena comes to the plate. Tech making another pitching change. Ross goes down swinging on 3 pitches for out #2. Now it's up to Jake Plastiak. And Jake goes down on 3 strikes but the catcher drops the pitch but he tags home plate just ahead of Paxton Wallace for a force out to end the inning. That last play was kind of Keystone Copish. Tech escapes with their 12-10 lead intact.

Actually they did a video review on that final play. Shane said the ball went up the 1st base line about 15 feet and that the catcher could either have thrown to 1st or tag Plastiak who was right there but for some reason decided to try to get the force at home and apparently he just did beat Paxton to the plate.

Alex Segal is in to pitch the bottom of the 6th. Get's the 1st two batters but a pop-up right in front of the mound was dropped by Mason O'Brien coming in from 1st base. A wild pitch moves the runner to 3rd. Alex gets a 6-3 ground out to end the inning with no damage done.

In the top of the 7th the Shocks get a 2-out scratch single and sounded like Luke Ritter nearly tied the game but his deep fly to center stayed in the park and was caught for he final out of the Shocker at bat. Shane said he just hit it to the wrong part of the park. May have gotten under it just a smidge was well.

Alex Segal walked the lead off batter in the bottom of the 7th then punched out the next two batters and had a chance to get through his 2nd scoreless inning. But Shocker center fielder Jack Sigrist made a diving attempt coming in on a ball hit to center and the ball got by him and rolled to the wall scoring the runner from 1st and resulting in a triple. Shane said they were fortunate the guy who hit the ball was not very fleet of foot.

After 7 innings Tech leads 13-10. Not insurmountable in a game like this one.

The Shocks got a 1 out jam shot to left center from Mason O'Brien. Brady Slavens struck out for the 2nd out and then Mason was thrown out at 2nd trying to advance on pitch in the dirt that did not get quite far enough away from the Tech catcher.

Clayton McGinness is on to pitch the bottom of the 8th. Clayton got the lead off batter on a grounder to 2nd. Tech then hit their 6th home run of the game to make it 14-10 and that was followed by a triple to the wall in center. A flare to right field for a single puts Tech up 15-10.

Last chance for the Shockers but 5-runs is most likely too much to ask even on a good day for hitting.

9 of Tech's 16 hits are for extra bases but none of those are doubles. Tech has 3 triples and 6 home runs. That will help the ol' slugging percentage.

Tech makes a pitching change to start the top of the 9th with Clayton Beeter, a redshirt freshman, with a 95+ mph fastball.

Shocks go down meekly in the 9th.

              Red Raiders...15-16-1
              Shockers........10-14-1

              Shocks fall to 5-8.

Offensively the Shocks are better than I thought hey would be this year. I thought the pitching would have to carry the team but that obviously isn't the case. Just the opposite is true to this point in the season.

I have to admit I so much more enjoyed watching the Lady Shocks no-hit the Nebraska Cornhuskers in a 6-2 win today and run-ruling the Huskers 10-1 yesterday.

Listening to today's game was/is brutal. Currently in the top of the 8th after Tech added another 2 runs to their margin.

It kind of crazy, but I watched the BU/UNI game instead of listening to Shocker baseball.

What happened to our regular posters in Doc and DTSB? Hope they haven't fallen off the bandwagon.

I guess losing the last 4 to Okie State and Texas Tech is not a surprise but allowing 52 runs in the process was very painful. The Shocks team ERA is up to 7.21.

The schedule gets much easier over the next 14 games all at home. Shocks need to win a lot of these games but more importantly they need to start finding some effective pitching and not just 1 or 2 guys.

I agree 72, it wasn't so much the losses but the runs allowed and low-IQ relapse. Oh, well, I'm still looking for positives and will be setting in our seats when Friday rolls around. I will miss the ORU game as we out of town for my son's spring break. Go Shocks!
