Great, great food, and Aaron Franklin, the owner, is about the friendliest guy you'll ever meet behind a counter, too. A writer from Bon Appetit calls it the best in America, and a book and website called "The Fearless Critic," which reviews all kinds of restaurants in the Austin area (a wonderful restaurant city) ranks it third overall in town, behind two notable fine dining places, and first among barbecue restaurants. Do not miss it -- it's better than the famous places in Lockhart, and you don't have to go out of your way to get there (as compared to visiting Lockhart, which takes you farther east of San Marcos than you'd expect).

For some the glass is half full and for others half empty. My glass is out of ice.

Sounds like the competition will be solid. I would be ecstatic with a 2-1 record, but 1-2 or an o'fer may be a real possibility.

This will be a good test early, especially facing Texas State. They got a new stadium and are an up and coming program according to this article. The article also mentions Purdue as well, which we got a 4-game series with them later on in the year. We got some chances to build up the ol' resume', let's hope the love Gene was dishing out comes to fruition.

How would a weekend sweep and a Davidson win start your Monday off?

I don't recall this much lack of enthusiasm to begin the season - since never. Hello, is anybody out there? Or do we pretty much know that it will be another 30 and 20 season with no NCAA appearance?

If we beat #35 Texas State, will that at least get your hopes up?

It's still basketball season. We are enjoying the ride. I made my comments earlier about the upcoming tournament.

As shoxlax stated, basketball season takes center stage, even more so this season.

The back-to-back regional-less baseball is probably finally starting to take a toll. A win over Texas State would be a pleasant surprise and be a good start. Not counting on it though.

                      ... No really, deuces.

That's too bad. You're missing a helluva season.

There's just not much to be enthusiastic about going in to this season from a fan perspective. No trips to the CWS in forever, minimal prospects for even making the NCAA tournament, same ol' same ol'.

We got our tickets on Wed. and I told my wife, "This is it, I'm ready to be done with Shocker Baseball unless something changes."

I'm putting 100% of my support behind the basketball program for as long as it lasts this year. We'll see about baseball after that.
